964RS original bonnet number

Looking at a 964RS at the weekend. Been told to get the number from the bonnet but where is the number ?

Do you mean white build sticker under the bonnet?

I'm unaware of any other on a 911.

No Just wanted to know if the bonnets are numbered to the cars.

Don't need to know if it's worth buying or not.

The 5-digit shell number is stamped onto the aluminium bonnet, the engine lid, both doors and the shell. They should all match.

On the bonnet it's just above where the courtesy light would be. There is no light, just a space. The original bonnet should of course be aluminium.

The engine lid number is stamped into the lip nearest the rear windscreen centrally to the engine. You'll have to get down near the back of the engine and look up at it.

Both doors should have matching numbers - they're behind the door panels.

The shell has a number on the offside rear shelf hidden under the carpet. Also there's a matching number behind the lower dash knee trim.

I don't know tbh. I think it was Paul Howells who told me there is a shell number in the steel behind the lower dash trim. I've never taken mine off.

Hey Gary

Unfortunately not. You have to remove the knee roll which is held on by a couple of 8mm bolts. The build number will be stamped into the metal just to the left of the ashtray on a right hand drive car and to to the right of it on a LHD. In truth this is not an easy one to get to. The build number stamp on the back parcel shelf is far more straight forward. (x4 screws from memory). Altough it does vary from car to car there are sometimes build numbers stamped on the inside of the doors and on the floor pan below the sound proofing. These latter locations were not consistantly stamped but knee roll and parcel shelf were.
