CAR WANDERING AT SPEED

Sorry if this topic as been mentioned before but…my cayman start to become very very unstable and very sensitive at speeds over 70 , i would have thought a car of this class would have been more suited to these speeds,i have four brand new Goodyear F1 eagles on the car and the car has a full OPC history,i am going on holiday to Italy next week in the car via Germany and was looking forward to giving it a blow out on the autobahn, I am seriously thinking of taking the wife's volvo instead after this problem raised its head,would love to hear any ideas anyone has about the potential problem if any!!!.

Incorrect tire pressure. Car needs to be aligned.

I have no experience with Goodyear tires on my Porsches but I do not recall coming across any complaints by those that do. IIRC this tire was selected to be used on 911 starting in 2011.

I've had similar issues and "uneasiness" at motorway speeds after getting some new rear tyres fitted. A recheck of the geometry showed that it was way out. Now it is realligned, the car feels tight and safe.

I would take it to a porsche specialist with an accurate and calibrated geo tool - I wouldnt trust it with a high street place.

As above. Find yourself a decent Porsche indy in your area who knows how to set them up properly.

Took the car to my local formula 1 depot where they did the job nicely ,it now drives fantastic ((-:

Nothing's crisper handling than a properly aligned Porsche.

So they come highly recommended? I am bit put off the price as it is £30 with them oppose to £200 at OPC.


OP - is it tramlining? Is that the issue? I thought Goodyear tyres are not N rated but that's a whole different story lol

But Porsche use a Beissbarth wheel alignment equipment as do C of G

not a Hunter to be seen ;-)

It was a full proper job done with Porsche factory detail input into machine , the charge was £15 per wheel , he was ex army like myself so gave me 20% discount, it has transformed the handling and drive ,we'll happy

new tyres need time to bed in ..

I have found they need at least 500 miles, and preferably 1000 miles.

When tyres are new, the car feels out of sorts and jittery.

How long did it take him to do it and how many adjustments did he make?

Took the guy 50mins and he made from memory three adjustments per wheel.
