996TT to 997TT

Hello,

I've been searching for a new weekend sports car for 12 months and have finally decided on another 911.

I've read a few old threads but information would be much appreciated.

I'm looking for a 997 TT and will spend approx 40k.

I guess I should get a 2006 or 2007.

Any advise?

Just curious. Why the swap if you already have a 996 TT?

Adam, thanks for the interest. I sold the 996 18 months ago and have missed it ever since. I didn't have a garage when we moved to our new house so decided to sell rather than let it rot on the drive. I have now built a decent garage and are now back in the market.

As a weekend car, get one with the sports-shift-manual (or retrofit the kit after purchase)

It's a heck of a lot of car for 40k !

To be honest as a used buy I think a 996 turbo or 996 GT2 is a better bet. They're a bit simpler hence more reliable.

But the 997 Turbo is a better car. I'd be looking for the right car though - low mls, later the better, right spec, fpsh, Porsche warranty......

interior styling i completely agree 997 t better car.

4wd, steering and VTG are a backward step on gen 1 997 t IMO

I had a 996 and 2 997 turbos.

In my humble view the handling, brakes are not up to scratch for the power on 996 version. There is also less lag and linear feeling on the 997.

The 997 turbo is a far superior car IMHusbandsO, more like revolution than evolution vs 996. Everything is a bit better. The improvement to the 4wd in the 997 makes a big difference.

Not sure id have either as a weekend car they are both a bit too mon-fri for me. 993 or 964 for the weekend!

Actually most weekends I go for a long ride on my bicycle as I love the sense of freedom it brings (and the exercise).

But wait....my bike is modern, carbon fibre, fast & exhilarating...perhaps I'm missing a trick here ??

I should sell it and get a Penny-Farthing instead, that would be much more fun

I've always regarded the water-cooled Turbos to be uber-fast and efficient GTs.

Of course, when you talk about a 'weekend' toy in mid-July, one thinks of classic, drop top, or driver-focussed cars. But, for all year round capability, longer trips, or even the odd track day, then I think it would be a great choice.

I've had a 996 turbo for 3 years and have owned my 997tt four 4 years. The car is awesome and what it is capable of if fettled with is unbelievable. If you need some more help or advice please feel free to pm me.

Go on then ill bite....so that's why aircooled prices are so low at the moment? water cooled porsches are better weekend cars.
