997 gen.1 vs gen.2

Hi,

My first post in here.
I joined the forum because i am looking for a 997 and need to know a few things about it.
Would you mind sharing the main differences between the generation 1 and 2?

For me 997.1 better drive and engine noise (except GTS on both counts), but 997.2 better engine (supposedly - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I have recently bought a PDK Gen 2 Carrera S after owning a manual Gen 1 S for 6 years. Both cars were optioned the same except for the gearbox. The main differences I have founds so far are:
Gen 2 is more economical (~22 - 25 mpg Gen 1/ ~27 - 30 mpg Gen 2)
Gen 2 feels quicker but that could be down to the PDK.
Gen 2 more comfortable, smoother drive better PASM.
PCM better on Gen 2
Both had sports exhaust Gen 1 sounds much better.
Hope this helps, both are great cars. I had no trouble with the engine on the Gen 1 either.

Same as my gen 1, makes me feel much better :-)

I average about 18mpg on my Gen 1 but it all B roads and the odd bit of town..

I did the same (4 years in a C2S 997.1 manual) but went for a C4S PDK 997.2. Agree with all of the above and the PCM has much better features such as Bluetooth and a better (although still not great) satnav. I also have more peace of mind with the 997.2 but to be fair the 997.1 gave me faultless motoring over the 4 years with the only costs being servicing, fuel and insurance apart from 2 batteries as I only use it at weekends

Manual Gen 2 C2S - I get 23-26mpg having fun on our Highland roads and - to my surprise - averaged 30.4mpg last week on the round trip from Perthshire to Goodwood.
