Cayman S Gen 1 - exhaust & suspension upgrades?

Hi guys,

This is my 1st post In the porker section.

I've had my 2006 cayman a now for 2years, and my OPC warranty it running up, I love the car but recently got the new cayman s out on loan from the garage to have a go for a day. I loved it but when I did the sums it's just too rich for me at the moment.

I've got alittle bored of my car, and id like a change but with a new job it's going to be a few years before I can. So I was planning a few upgrades for the car.

I'd like some form of exhaust system upgrades to give the car a better exhaust note, I have also fallen out of love with the standard tailpipe and at £250 for the twin exit tailpipe I may as well spend alittle more and upgrade the system. What is the best value for money / sound / performance system, I don't want something too chav, or boomy on the motorway. My friend is a miltek dealer and can get me a new good price on a new system, how do they sound on the cayman s?

I've picked up some h&r wheel spacers 16 & 8mm and I would like to have the car lowered slightly also, how are the h&r or eibach springs for PASM like to live with? How is the ride? Are they likely to ruin my PASM shockers?

Any advice would be great.

avoid fitting wider spacer on the rear than the front for a start. you will get more understeer.

And I had a Remus systems on my Gen 1 car and liked it, also gives 10 bhp as it deletes 2 of the 4 cats on a gen 1 car.

you can easy get 345Bhp out of these for very little outlay with a 996 GT3 throttle body and a remap along with a Remus exhaust.

Who, where and at what cost is the Remus system?

Is the throttle body direct replacement? Is the remap required to make it run with the tb? Or just to tie the modifications together after?

Do you have a 2.7 litre Cayman? - if so I think 345 bhp is a distant dream.
The best source for info on upgrades is Planet-9 in the USA, they have aculture of modifying cars as standard to personalise them.

all works at once in tune with each other.

I got my Remus from Remus UK direct is was the cheapest.
and the remap from Softronic, he also sells a full kit with the 996 GT3 throttle body inc and a cable.

it tried and tested on the gen 1 with awesome results ;-)

yes it would be on a 2.7 :-)

took it for granted he had a S due to the age of the car as the 2.7 came later and did not sell well.

if it is a 2.7 911 V are selling a 2nd hand Remus systems for that car.

never liked that sort of chaved up sounds and 5x the price.

I wouldn't go changing the springs as it is likely to upset the PASM. Best to change the lot to something like KW's if you are prepared to spend that much.

Have you got KW's in yours? Or tried the springs?

No I've got PASM also and have read on here that you either need to keep it original or change both springs and shocks to avoid problems.

Get a Carnewal GT exhaust and you get the best sounding Cayman for an even better price.

+1 for a carnewal Gt exhaust, very reasonable on price and the best sound u will get and not boomy on motorway at all.
The best mod I did to my boxster, really gave the car some personality which I was after & I assume the kind of change you are after.
Gert of Carnwal is a really nice to deal with too. My neighbour went straight to his laptop & ordered an exhaust from Gert for his 3.4 cayman S when he heard my car pull in the drive after having it fitted.

I've read alittle on this GT exhaust, from what I understand this guy just guts one of the cats?

Can anyone explain the process of what it is exactly that he does?

Also once I was to have this done (£400 I think) and them buy some new round tail pipes I'm nearly into the price of a full system.

Have no fear - they deliver! Literally! They'll send you the "new" exhaust and all you have to do is pop your current one off and send it back to them!
