Jumping in the cayman today with the Mrs and via stopovers in metz,salzburg,will be spending a week in italy ,i will try and post a few pics if i can work out how to do it lol

would love to do this, trying to convince the mrs

bit of a longer trek for us though to be fair, 3 hours drive to dublin, boat across, then holyhead to folkestone, eurotunnel to calais, then throw the car on autotrain to nice

nice idea but dont think it will happen

Just did 3,950km across Europe in the 996tt. One way, south!

Tuscany (while hotter than ideal) offered probably the best driving in quality and quantity. I followed a Mille Miglia route.

Also outstanding was the Fluela Pass in Switzerland. And too much more to mention. Grimsel, Furka, Stelvio, Pordoi, Falzarego, done!

Route des Vins, Strada Chiantigiana, Costiera Amalfitana, but really needed more than 10 days... had to skip some bits though admittedly there are only so many pretty villages that you can stop at!

Nice to see old Mille Miglia wall graffiti in San Quirico D'Orcia in support of Osca, Maserati, Ferrari, Nuvolari (bust of the man in the locality too).

Was told by a Porsche owning BB owner we stayed at in Klosters that the roads leading to St Moritz are also on par with the Fluela Pass.

I was over there exactly this time last year in my VW campervan. Did France, Switzerland and Italy. Best holiday I've ever had and I've had some good'uns.
I'm itching to do it again in the GT3.

What's this train that takes you to Nice!? You mean I can stick my car on a train straight to the South coast. Will definitely do that as France was boring really (apart from Reims) and we spent a fortune on the pay roads with my Sanef!

My last huge Euro trip was in my Cayman, it was the perfect car for the job with all of its storage space and it was still really comfortable. Late August after I'm done here in the USA I'm taking my TTS down to Monaco and Provence, can't wait.

Just tell her she'll love it . Have just come back from the Pyrenees via Riems/Versailles,Ile de Re, and Bergerac,
Scorching heat but sensational roads !

Thanks for that, it looked great until I read that passengers have to make their way to their destination by other means.

I'd have to weigh up the time it takes to come off the motorway, drop off the car, get a passenger train, then sort out at other end versus just staying on the motorway straight past.

If passengers could travel on the same train I'd be all for it. Thanks for the link.

Will definitely bare it in mind for next time though.

Also consider going further east to Austria. I am just back from Linz and we drove extensively around Linz,Passau and down to Salzburg. The areas is called Upper Austria - roads were perfect,empty, drivers fast and several old Porsches on the road. Unfortunately I was in a BMW 320D Touring as I was attending a rowing event in Linz. And I managed to drive back in one go so it's not too far - departed Linz at lunchtime and arrived in Reading at 3am ready for bed. The worst driving was on the M20 at 2am - 3 lanes of cars off the Chunnel all at 90 mph plus trying to get home fast.

try and make the Turracherstrasse though just north of the Nokalmstrasse ... best road i've driven in austria

Just adding rhat we came back via Swiss so just had to do the gotthard pass which was incredible , I'll get some pics up later but we spent a night in colmar then drove back to derby via the train, set off at 0830 local arrived derby 2030 , so pleased with the way the cayman gobbled up the miles and achieved a pleaseing 30mpg over the whole trip.
