993 Low speed transmission shunt?
Discussion
If I am driving slowly say 30-40 mph is a high gear 4 or 5th I get some uncomfortable transmission shake on slowing down.
I know I can prevent this by changing into 2nd or 3rd... However is it my poor driving technique, gearbox mount or something to do with the throttle?
Any pragmatic suggestions appreciated.
On a separate subject, I suspect we have all been caught doing something wrong by our wives...
My infringement was worse than most... I had printed that Jackal page where he cleans the inside of his 993's wheel arches and they glow perfect yellow...
On Monday I replicated the entire process, removed the plastic liners, washed, scrubbed, removed tar and (tragically) polished everything you will never see.
I was black, fifthly, smelly and triumphant.. Until my wife commented that: A, No one will see under there! B, It will only get dirty again... No soul!
Cheers

Tell me how you get on. I started a thread on here a few months back about it happening in 1st and 2nd on my 993 C2 Some answers thought the transmission mount. I sent it in to PCT at Coventry, the outcome was, they had a look, there is nothing wrong with it and stop worrying, its just a small amount of play. Personally I still think the GB mount is worn but maybe not worn out.I know I can prevent this by changing into 2nd or 3rd... However is it my poor driving technique, gearbox mount or something to do with the throttle?

On your second point. Since reading the devils own son (AKA the jackal) site. I've replaced the engine mounts, had the RSR conversion done to the exhaust and now feel the top mounts need doing.
Keep away from his site, its cleaning the arches now, next it will be RS bushes. You have been warned. :-)

Could also be your engine mounts. How is gear selection, sometimes a bit baulky/sticky?
Check the rear engine mounts to see if the engine has sagged. If there is a noticeable gap between the engine carrier and mount engine will be sitting low which means it can move around casuing shunting etc.
Most owners will upgrade to C4 mounts (actually half the price of C2 mounts) or RS. The latter can cause more vibration but for £200 (C4 mounts) the transformation is astonishing.
Just in the process of swapping my 20yr old mounts out of my 964 and going for 993 C4 ones.
There is a front transmission mount which is a pig to replace but rarely fails

Poor driving technique. Too low revs for too high gear. The drive train hardware has to have some clearance and what you are experiencing is this clearance as play as you drive the car inappropriately.
This type of low rpm high gear driving tends to be hard on the engine main and rod bearings too.

Im not so sure, he should easily be able to cruise at 40 in 4th, maybe (though I wouldnt do it) in 5th for example. This type of low rpm high gear driving tends to be hard on the engine main and rod bearings too.

Where mine is concerned ....... its actually lifting off at higher revs, say 3.5K or more. A real cushioned thud, but only in 1st or 2nd gear.

This is a massive bug bear of mine! I cringe when I see or hear people straining their engines like this. This type of low rpm high gear driving tends to be hard on the engine main and rod bearings too.
