Suspension creaking

I've got a problem with my 997 Carrera S

I have a creaking sound when I drive over speed bumps, I've had the shock absorber replaced, springs, bushes and top mounts and it continues to occur on my front drivers side.

It seems to be more apparent when the wheel is turning

Get someone to bounce the car while you feel the suspension joints with your hands; the creaky joint will vibrate as it creates the noise. Toe arms and bottom balljoints are a common issue.

Had it on my 996 Turbo.
It was the suspension top mounts which had basically dried up (bearings)
Common fault.

I've just had this on my 997 C4S, it creaked like an old bed. Replaced the so called "coffin arm" and that sorted it. Spent around 300 pounds.

my car has warranty so hopefully they'll be able to diagnose it. Interesting to see if it's the coffin arms.

Quick thought though
This issue only happens on the front drivers side. The passenger side is quiet.
I take it there are coffin arms on both sides and the drivers side is faulty?

Track rod end ball joint(s) often go dry too (with almost exactly the same symptoms). Easy to check and a lot less expensive to fix if it/they turn-out to be the problem

What connects the steering rack to the hub carrier then??

hi all

i noticed with the rain yesterday the squeaking went away.

i assume it will come back when the suspension bit dries out again?

does this more likely to confirm its coffin arms

Jack car up and spray lube on all shocks, cured it for me.....(i had new coffin arms and it still squeaked)

I've had new shocks fitted, didnt fix it.

Not suprised, plus if you read the above posts nobody even reccomended shocks as a possible culprit. Still, if its under warranty, nice to get a new set in for free!

I did read the posts above but the dealer replaced the shocks thinking this was the problem.

Check the front boot rubber stoppers / bumpers - they are adjustable and in my car these made a very funny sound until I turned them up a turn or two.
Then it went all quiet there after.

Coffin Arms everytime and OPC's know this its a common problem on all Boxsters, 996's, 997s, if they've replaced anything else they've just spanked your ass!!! Two new coffin arms needed, if ones started the other one will follow.

I think the more accurate name is "lower suspensio arm", altough I stand to be corrected.

Fitted these before as you get two year warranty, four years on with the 996 turbo and no problems
