Not for sale - 986 2.7 manual

My Boxster is 11yrs old. Bought it new. It's probably worth 20% of what I paid for it in local currency. It is NOT FOR SALE.

I've owned circa 10 cars and it has been hard parting with all of them, for different reasons, but with an onwards and upwards mindset, it has in the past been possible to part with one as the replacement has generally been more interesting. However, looking back at my car history, I must say that I would repurchase virtually every single one again (although in this fantasy, they would have to be restored to virtual-concours standards).

I commute in my Boxster and the hour or so I spend in the car each day is certainly not a chore. I occasionally think I would like to commute in something else but what's the point! I might as well run the Boxster into the ground and at some later date, nothing would give more more pleasure than throwing some money (that I would have lost by running around in something newer) at the problem and having it restored!

Definitely would be daft to part with that. They still look great today.

I'm very jealous of where you live too! Amazing place. We came through last year on our way to Lake Como and stopped in Lauterbrunnen, where we also went up to Wengen. Just so happened to be Swiss national day too, so loads of celebrations and fireworks in the valley that night. Just fantastic!

Me and the missus can't wait to get back out there on another road trip. Like I say you're a lucky person to live out there!

Mine is 11 years old (bought new in Jan of 02). Lapis blue (everyone knows lapis blue Boxsters are simply the best Boxsters) with metropole blue top and grey interior. 5-speed. Probably worth less than yours given the car has just under 270K miles on it. Still runs just fine. Think it needs a bit of an A/C recharge though as the air is not as cold as I remember and not as cold as the Turbo's A/C air. I'll get this done when I take it for an oil/filter service in the next week or two.

Oh, not for sale. Well, not exactly. I mean if someone offered me say what I paid for it new ($42K and change)... Sure, I'd sell it. But with regret. Lots in fact.

In the meantime I'll just keep on driving the car.

Once in a while. Not every trip but at least a couple of times per month. Most of my driving is in areas and in traffic where it is not wise to hit redline. I tell myself keep it say under 6K because of the engine's age/miles but once in a while I, well, I forget and before you know it the revs are up over 6K and while maybe not right at the redline -- the rev limiter doesn't kick in -- very close.

But the engine does see rpms every trip/drive as long as the engine is up to temp. Often I hit 4K in 1st and often times more than that in 2nd. While the limit is 65mph around here there's no sign that says one can't get from say 10mph to 65mph in as few seconds as he can provided of course it is done safely.

So freeway on ramps when traffic permits gives me a chance to air out the engine a bit and use lots of throttle and revs up to the point the car obtains the legal speed limit.
