First Porsche 996T X50 yay

Hi all,
Just put a deposit down on an X50 manual. It'll be with me in a few weeks but now I wanted to know lots about the car without endless searching of posts (ok I can if you all get upset with my questions)! I'm in Twickenham London, any owners nearby?
1) Looking a for recommended insurance company. Would you go non sports car? It has different alloys and front end + a tracker fitted
2) It's just had a service but is it worth an independent check somewhere? Which garage do you recommend?
3) Remaps are not a priority right now, there's a confusing world out there. Seems like nine excellence are good but with no prices on the web site I'm a bit suspicious of cost! I am aware of how complex the maps are to do so wouldn't want to go cheap on this. APR look interesting but little info about them and £1600 seems a lot.
4) Which exhaust system is recommended at sensible money?
5) If the clutch goes what should I replace it with and what sort of cash am I looking at? I think it's on the original clutch at 40k.
6) Anyone bother with warranties on these? Is it even an option on a 2002 car?
7) How do you drive these in corners? Can you power out early etc. I am aware that it may be a little different with the engine at the rear. I'm used to mid-engine.
8) Anything else worth checking \ knowing?

1) I went with Admiral, been with them years but you need to go through confused.com to get the best price. Mine also has a tracker but I chose not renew because it made no difference to the renewal cost at all
2. Agreed, I had a 111 point check carried out at Porsche pre-purchase which gave me a good idea of things to tackle going forward
3. Remap is also on my list but almost a year in I have held off, I will be looking to change the exhaust first to compliment the map but it seems 9E is the favoured choice. Revo are also quite popular and I like the fact you can buy a box to switch between maps
4. As for exhausts, favourites appear to be: Cargraphic (quite loud), Milltek (subtle noise and proven bhp gains),Europipe, Tubi and a few others, 9E also offer their own exhausts but they are out of my price range
5. I'll let someone else answer this, also still on original clutch and it appears fine at 60k~
6. Warranty is only on cars under 10 years so you are out of luck on that one, 3rd party warranties from what I've read aren't worth the paper they are written on, I'm going down the contingency fund route
7. I'm no expert but its cornering ability is phenomenal, I generally power out to some degree
I have to admit the Porsche community definitely takes a bit of getting used to, coming from VW Gti's/SEAT Cupra's & M sport BMW's its generally a much older crowd who lean towards purist, modifying is certainly not as popular

I wouldn't say I was old (42) and I drive a remapped X50? Great car. I'm with Admiral right now, but I'm moving to the TIPEC club insurance sponsor when I'm renewing as they quoted me a lot less. Get the car checked, somewhere like 9E or JZM. Stock clutch is ok, just put another one in. Nothing wrong with the exhaust, just replace it if needed or buy a trusted expensive one. There are too many stories of CEL's with cheap ones. Again 9E or JZM can advise. Bigger breaks would be somewhere to start if you are going to mod. 1) I'm with A-plan, I've used them loads in the past (but never had to claim) nice to talk to human beings for a change.

I wasn't saying Porsche drivers were 'old' just 'older' than the SEAT/VW hot hatch & ///M forums (as an average)

I'm with a plan insurance and as someone has said, it's great to talk to people who know about these cars.
My car has 55k and I'm led to believe its still on the original clutch.
I had mine remapped with a revo map before I picked it up ( I test drove it as standard), no problems so far.
I should add that mines an x50 too!

My initial thoughts are, well done for jumping in, you won't be disappointed. It'll be quite different from your VX. Get used to it before getting your wallet out,you can spend thousands on Porsches quite easily. They have loads of power as std, but there are tons of mods you can do if you really feel the need, many don't.They go round corners very well, the consensus with a 911 is slow in fast out. Mine is insured with Tesco, they were the best combo of costs vs cover, use the search engines. If you do start to mod,you'll cut down your options massively. Lastly, enjoy your new toy!!.
