Just wondering for those who do occasional track days what opions you have gone for re. track day insurance..

I'm just about to book my first trackday in my Cayman R but I've read that Admiral (who I'm with) do not insure for track days.

Wondering what options are out there re. cost for a single day track day.

Hi,

Stand alone track day cover can be expensive. Try competition car insurance for a quote.

Next year get a renewal quote from Mannings as they have free European cover with their policies.

Also worth getting a quote from Pace Ward come renewal time as they do trackday cover for around £65 a time for policy holders.

For now this thread may be helpful: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=129...

I'm with Matt at Henderson Taylor. Trackday cover included, however I don't track mine anyway and it's about to move onto our multicar policy next month.

Yes mine is a multicar policy with 3 cars on it hence not so easy just to switch... at least until renewal anyhow.

Just got a couple of quotes in for 1 track day... £40k cover

Insuremytrackday quoted £350 with £3500 excess and Moris for £200 with £3500 excess!

Not sure if I'll bother considering I only pay around £350 for a years cover with around £100 excess

Be careful with the excess that some insurance companies charge for track days...

Some charge on a percentage of the overall value of the car yikes

Yep, it's often 10% so £3.5k on a £35k car.
Still better than losing the lot, but I'd rather just track something cheaper.

For the sake of a 5 minute phone call it may be worth buzzing Admiral and see if they can add it as an extension (if you haven't already)? NU (now Aviva) used to do something similar.

If you're a PCGB member, then Locktons run a club scheme that includes track days and can be a fleet with non Porsches on it.

I saved about £50 this year and since they use Chubb you get a great policy.

I went through the insurance renewal 'game' last week. Lockton's were £230 more expensive than Mannings for me (and that was with their 10% PCGB discount). The cover is very similar from both companies.
Another broker told me that my postcode carries an additional risk this year. Funny how they mentioned that for the insurance renewal on my GT3 but were happy to match a 'Compare The Market' quote on my Peugeot 306.......

The trouble with using your normal road risk insurer is if you have an accident on the track it will probably affect your no claims bonus

Track day cover included, provided professionally run (excludes Nurburgring)

I have been with them for over ten years
No one gets close on annual cost for me, and they are brilliant guys to deal with.

Latest info from me based on some investigation today:

- Pace Ward & Manning (who I'm with currently) come out roughly the same on premium (GT3 in this case) and it's fairly competitive (High street deals from the likes of Elephant or Diamond are cheaper - up to £200 in fact - but is it worth trusting you prime Pork to them??). Manning include unlimited track days, Price Ward appear to operate on a pay as you go basis, although they did include 1 event in the price. BOTH involve an excess of 10% of vehicle value if you claim though :-(

- Plan B: separate track day cover (multi-event) with Moris.co.uk comes out at £300 for me, and excess on claim is lower at £4,000 per claim. However, looks like policies such as these are only really intended to cover 'accidental dammage' and do NOT cover things like dammage to your gearbox or engine, or for that matter 'liability to other persons'...Caveat emptor as they say.

I am going to put a call in to Manning to check what their track day cover *actually* includes and will report back.

Moris policy wording:

What your Trackday Policy covers:

External accident damage (i.e. impact) to the car only whilst engaged in the specified track day activity.
Fire damage but only if directly following an accident (i.e. impact).
The costs of repairing the car or, if insurers decide, pay you or the legal owner (should the car be subject to hire
purchase or lease) an amount in full settlement.
Any amount paid cannot be more than the car's market value at the time of the accident and all claims are subject to an
excess/deductible as shown on the Trackday Insurance details.
Labour costs up to £50 per hour including VAT

What your Trackday Policy does NOT cover:

Bikes. (giggle)
Internal damage to the engine or to the gearbox or transmission.
Mechanical, electrical or computer breakdown, however caused.
Liability to other participants, to any third parties or to passengers or any property damage.
Competitive driving, (in other words, whilst racing or on timed runs or trials).
Consumable items such as tyres, oils, linings etc.
Extra costs involved in repairing specialised paintwork and logos unless specifically agreed.
Shipping / Transportation / Recovery costs. (Note: insurance of recovery costs for circuits in England, Scotland or Wales
is available as an optional extension. This option is made available when completing your payment for vehicle damage insurance
online).
Labour costs exceeding £50 per hour (including VAT).
Damage to the interior of the car caused as a direct result of airbag deployment.
Loss or damage to the car whilst being driven by any person other than those specified within the Confirmation of Cover
document.
