So come on, admit it who honestly pays the screen price for a used OPC car? Knowing how much profits that Porsche have recently announced I can't believe anyone wants to pay full whack out of their hard earned cash. I've called up about a cayman s today and have been told it sold at lunchtime- I asked if it went near the ask

I don't think OPC used prices are not related to Porsche's profits.

But, to answer your question, most used Porsches will have a margin for negotiation, but it will vary from car to car, and they will know how tight or generous they can be. Sometimes it is reflected in a more generous trade-in.

Not me. I treat the list price as an amusing starting point, push as far as I can on sticker price, get a laughable trade-in option, push them on that and then look at the effective overall cost versus similar cars at non-franchise dealers, allowing for the OPC warranty. Once I get within striking distance of equality, I allow them a small margin for providing decent customer coffee and there's a deal to be done.

I am sure they don't want to lose sales for the sake of £2-£3k.
You just need to open negotiations..

I managed to get £2.5k off a £39k car recently and felt that was it..
They were not prepared to drop another penny..

Me too.

Not the cleverest thing I've ever done, but I kinda got carried away.

When I bought my two year old Turbo, allbeit in the doldrams of 2009, I managed to negotiate £9K off the sticker price.

Doubt that could be done today though, maybe half of that if you were lucky! biggrin

As mentioned depends on which model and how much prep was put in for it. They often do stupid things like reject your bid and then 2 weeks later bring the price down, lower than your bid. Saying this they sometimes put the price up, no real consistency between OPC's. These days their price are not too different to some indies and when you factor in 2 year warranty a good deal can be had.

Buy in November or December would be my suggestion to get the best deals, year end and not a lot of business in winter/Christmas. I got a very good deal last Novemeber.

All sorts of variables but these days more and more dealers are sticking very close to asking price. Went to have a browse at a 997 Turbo recently at Cardiff Aston Martin. It was up at around £48K and I asked what the very best deal was for a cash sale? Response was, sorry sir, our pricing is very competitive, no reduction but we'll offer a 12 months warranty!!! Two weeks later it's at £46K.

Similar story a couple of years ago when I was looking at a pre-reg Spyder with Porsche East London. Made them an offer which was turned down flatly. Literally the following day the same offer was made by an acquaintance of mine which they accepted!!!! Left a call with the sales manager which he didn't respond to.

This is the kind of BS I hate.

A cash sale isn't always what a salesman wants. He gets a commission for signing a punter on the strap!

I did on my first. Was in my early 20s and was a bit wet behind the ears.
Made up for it with my second one 5 years later - 13% off the screen price.

So whats the deal on new? Is it possible to haggle? Any options FOC?

Called up about a 911 today at an OPC and seeing as it isn't around the corner I wanted to discuss figures first. I told him I was prepared to put a deposit over the phone on the basis of a satisfactory test drive IF we can agree a decent price. So car is up at circa £35k and he says he will email me some numbers. He has written a huge email about the car then at the bottom said they can knock £250 off it. I told him as politely as I could no thank you but only after telling him my previous experiences with OPCs who have always offered px at £8k less the the screen price they sell it for. He said he will go back and ask again. What's the betting he comes back with £500 off.

I am amazed they sell any cars tbh, I mean 250 is less than 1% off the screen price. I remember when I used to buy cars at around the £10k mark and get a grand off and car tax thrown in. Seriously I can't see me getting another Porsche for a while as I do like to feel like I'm getting a bargain.

I think you will get more success face to face.

I disagree, from my experience once you are at the showroom they think you are either just passing time and browsing or that they have already sold you the car if you have traveled along way to get there and won't budge much on price. Over the phone I have managed to get better discounts but only when they have had the car in stock for a while. If the car you have phoned about is new in stock they will be reluctant to move much. If its still there in another couple of weeks try again. What is not acceptable one day will be the next, it's not just me that has experienced this. Also if you can wait until later on in the year, end of November/ December is always a good time for a deal with year end targets to be met etc!! Good luck.

I guess thats possible, its just that my experience is the opposite, altough I have never bought a car from a Porsche OPC specifically.

The best discount I have ever got was from a Ferrari dealer! About 20%! I broke him...

If you can make them aware that you are close to a deal with a competing OPC (without being too unsubtle about it) then money comes off very quickly. When closing on a deal with Colchester, Hatfield offered £2k off a £40k Boxster without us even asking for a discount.

From memory I think we might have told them the spec of the Colchester one and were just enquiring if with Hatfield if they had anything similar so they were probably offering us a discount because they felt that was needed to convince us to buy given the spec was quite different (which it was but we actually liked it)

Or you could do what I did and make a cheeky offer on a private car for sale, I had my offer accepted by the seller and the car still had over a year left on the official warranty which can be transferred.
O.K. there is an element of risk and you have to be pretty much on the ball but I HPI'd it phoned the OPC (thanks data protection act for f***ing up that part)to check out it's history flew up to Newcastle transferred the money over to the sellers bank account and drove home. Similar cars are still advertised at a lower spec for far more than I paid for it. Just adds to that grin when you drive it knowing it was a steal and turned out to be absolutely perfect in every respect.

Yep, I did the same for a similar amount.
