Currently tootling around on Bridgstone Duelers but the rears are well past their best.

Just spotted these Hankooks and wondered if anyone had any experience of them?

Also any recommendations at all would be great. Cheers.

Would agree with the Michelin choice.
I have run three sets of Bridgestone Turanza´s and have been fine. Reasonable longevity but now getting a little pricey.
Bought the car with Continentals fitted which seemed OK.
I am switching to Michelins next time round, after I get the pesky drive shaft and bearing done madmad

Has anyone tried a really cheap set? I bought the 20's for my Cayenne in November because I'd bought some 20" winter tyres last summer. I'd intended to buy summer tyres (the wheels came with 2 usable Hankooks, others no good) but have now realised there's no point (as it'll soon be October so I doubt I'd do 1,000 miles on before changing back again), hence I haven't conducted this experiment myself.

Anyway, in looking I noticed you could buy brand new 275 40 20 tyres for £65 each inc VAT - worth a try, surely? If they really are that bad, flog them on eBay for £200/set or put up with them till they wear out and choose differently next time.

Depends how much you value your life, surely?

The cheap tyres always fair badly in tyre tests, especially in the wet.

I understand what you mean but in any car and any conditions, you drive to the grip available, surely?

I've used a re-mapped Golf TDi as a runaround for the last 18 months which for what it is goes like stink - it's on 18" wheels with super-cheap tyres (although they are in axle pairs) and never had any scary moments. Sure, grip isn't great in the wet (worse now they're down to 2mm) but I drive it accordingly. I've been round Oulton & Donington in it too and as a consequence of lower grips levels the standard brakes have held up fine - there's no way they would have with MPSC's on (for example).

Anyway, rather than debate it lots I was just wondering if anyone had given it a go out of curiosity - I'd rather hear people's opinions than speculation, if you see what I mean.

A selling point to me on my Cayenne is that it had a full matching set of Michelin Diaramis N1s. That's why I've just replaced them like for like. If you're thinking of selling then fit cheap tyres at your peril. I've you've bought cheap, and for me that includes Kuhmo's, then some people will assume you have skimped on the maintenance too. Is it worth it to save £300?

Hmm, well if you can get a set of 4 20" Michelins for £560 then I'm all ears.

The Diamaris were woeful on our X5. Switched to Duellers (and bought a set of proper winter wheels/tyres) and its like a different car, seriously there's about an extra 1/4 turn of lock available before it understeers.

Just after some good tyres, dont care if they're value or peformance really. Hankooks or Falkens are fine by me.
