Why did Porsche make the GT3RS gen 2 so that a roll cage can not be retro fitted

I could respond with the technical reason for the roll cage making the car stiffer, but I prefer your explanation

I understand and I would also want one with a cage, just because it looks/feels right for that type of car and it provides somewhere to attach harnesses.
However, I would be surprised if it added significantly to any perceived rigidity. The GT3 chassis is so stiff even before putting cages in. Having had 996 variants in comfort and RS spec, the base car was stiff enough!

It completes the car, I would not be happy without, can't help it.

And I want harnesses, make me look like a prized D*ck, but what the hell, love em.

No sure the bolt in cages do anything much for rigidity, I think you need a welded in cage to stiffen things up.

I agree they look right in the more extreme cars however and had one in my 6GT2. My GT3 doesn't have one and to be honest its makes it more practical to use for work, which I frequently do.

Can be done! The US market RS's dont have the Roll Cage fitted, browse the www.sharkwerks.com sit and there is a tuning guide for all GT3 variants. Under the 997.2 RS section there is a piece on roll cage retro fitment!

The CS cage stiffens the 996GT3 shell. For what a retro cage fit would cost IF it were available, you could have a bolt in cage fabricated and fitted for less. Someone like Custom Cages would built a rear cage from T45 (far lighter than the material Porsche use)

"Porsche actually sent chassis over with the receivers/bolts to a-fix the factory roll bar. You can simply pull back the carpet and try to locate the recievers. If not you can have your local shop weld in some plates/recievers as we did "

A friend of mine had a 997.2 GT3 retro fitted with a correct OEM clubsport cage by Fernsport at Silverstone. Looks like a really good job too
