That's what I thought. If so, which seems highly likely then there's some info on the Polishing Club forum.

When I inspected the car it was on the ramps at JCT and I asked the technician to point out any likely crash damage. From underneath we could find no evidence of repairs.
I liked the car, it went very well, looked fantastic but it did not offer anything extra to me over my beloved 964RS other than uncertainty, so i told the owner, Steve, that I was unlikely to proceed any further.
Why do I mention all this? Well, to anyone interested in a 996 RS, i actually think this is a good, honest car, just like the vendor. The Kent guy was seemingly put off by the paint and Steve volunteered this information to me. With this information to hand, I was able to see the evidence but it did not put me off, i would have had the bodywork checked, obviously but was more concerned with things like the car having only done 600 miles in the last 5 years, the 8 years old tyres, the RMS leak, level 1 over-rev and the question of keeping or removing the PCCBs.
opc visual health check, as mentioned above, another oil leak as well as rms which has failed again after less than 500 miles, probably due to lack of use. various other bits and pieces nothing that worried me.
due to the rev range 1 over revs i decided to have full opc leak down and compression tests, not cheap.
finally, a guy that owns one of these cars and inspects cars as part of his daily job went to see the car on my behalf. the car has clearly seen paint and this is not what i am looking for. the mere possibility that something had happened to it meant it was not for me. if there has been any damage and that is IF i do not believe steve was aware of it.
the car had a new set of pccb after just 18 months and does not have a full service history and has not been warranted since 2008. as mentioned steve didnt use it and i understand him not servicing it. he told me the dealer that sold it to him mentioned it had paint but wouldnt or couldnt say why.
So it would seem
Rev range one ignitions are not over-revs, they just show the rev limiter kicked in, just as it's designed to do, very much at a safe engine speed. I had the data read from the RS we'll be advertising very shortly (at last!) and in 9 years it's been at the limiter something around no more than 15 seconds. If that puts anyone off buying it then they don't understand what they're buying.

Been a long time coming this car of yours. What's been the reason for delay ?Does it have a full maintenance record and good provenance ?
I remember you saying it'll come with new brakes for the new owner.
Cheers

Yep, it ticks all the boxes. The brakes are included in the sale but the buyer can decide between Alcons or standard Porsche items.
Prep included carbon fibre restoration, engine out to rectify FMS and RMS leaks (dried out due to lack of use) along with a major service, cylinder leakage check, new plugs, all filters, coolant, brake fluid and gearbox oil changes, new MOT and a full detail. Circa £5k but worth it.

They were asking £70k for the other one.
Out of interest to see what those who are more familiar with the cars think... Would one say a 6 RS at 70k would be a better car to buy than the 7.1 RS at say 75k? For primarily road use with a few trackdays thrown in. The 7.1 RS I am given to understand is the better road car as it is more compliant but the 6 RS has much lower production numbers and represents the first and probably the purest link to the cup car of all (and given the way the gt3 has gone, probably will ever be..)

I've owned a 997 gt3 great car but as far as the 996 RS is concerned it can be tailor made to be easier to drive mainly on road just by adjusting the set up. My 6RS the last owner done 4k miles in a year no hassles and although mine is currently on a track set up it can be easily changed. The 7.1 RS I am given to understand is the better road car as it is more compliant but the 6 RS has much lower production numbers and represents the first and probably the purest link to the cup car of all (and given the way the gt3 has gone, probably will ever be..)

682 cars only built so fairly rare.
