Air cooled values.

Firstly I apologise as 'values' threads appear to sometimes be frowned upon however I do find myself wondering about the future values of certain models of air cooled 911s which of course includes my own 993.
It seems that all air cooled cars generally hold their money and some are on the up. What determines this? Low mileage? Obviously condition and history are paramount but things being roughly equal will sub 100k milers always command a premium or will we see a rise across the range of mileages?

Well air cooled values seem to be holding up well, people are now however thinking twice before buying.
I never thought my one, would go up so much in the last five years.
I could not afford to buy one now, plus its harder to find a good one you are looking at £30k-£50k?
It was hard for me five years ago to find the right car.
Condition is a huge factor miles come into play I looked at some low ones they were in bad condition. A nice paint job can hide many a horror for a new owner.
My one had the top end done all ready and had been looked after bills serviced more than it should have been. I have spent money on it each year upkeep etc, as you have to look after them even if you do not use it that much.
There is also a lot of poor 911's other there for sale? People are holding on to there cars a bit longer these days as well.
I have noticed people, are looking more for a the classic looking 911 than the new water 911's.
People's taste changes what they want one year, they hate the next prices go up and down.
The buyer is always king, a 911 is not top of a buy list these days. People are also looking for stock cars not messed with otherwise its an even smaller market for the seller.

People also want more for their money today, I buy on condition not miles.

My choice it was my dream car from a small boy, others a investment etc.
As for me, its not about the money its the 'EVERY MILE IS A SMILE' factor.
I count myself very lucky, to the car in the first place.

Condition condition condition. Unless its a sub 50k miles car in my opinion. Same as most buyers I looked and called up about lots before getting mine. It wasnt my first choice of colour combo but the ones that were didn't 'feel' right so I ended up with Iris and grey which has grown on me.
I've lost quite a lot on my last two 993's when I came to sell them. They cost a fortune to maintain every year and they don't seem to rise in value that much. Maybe they will go the way of the 964. By the time that happens I'll have probably spent another £15k on the Money-pit.

Interesting...Porsche made as many 964's as they did 993's....well near as damn it 62,000 vs 68,000. very similar numbers of Turbo's and they made twice as many 964 RS and they did 993 RS.
993's "depreciation" is the maintenance...a bit like owning helicopters. They don't depreciate a lot but cost a lot to maintain. Mate of mine has had a 993 Targe for ten years now....it's worth probably £5k less than he paid for it but he reckons it's cost £1k to £2k per annum to maintain. That's with a central London Porsche specialist.

Values may go up but you will not be better off, unless like me you don't keep them 2 mins. 
Unit cost & life cost are 2 different arguments.
I would also say that its the low mile concours stuff which will rise, and even then you won't enjoy it for fear of putting miles on, so it becomes an ornament.

I don't agree, I think they all will rise. Even leggy ones. It's all relative.I met a guy on Sunday who has a 3.2 with 163k miles on it. It was f
king more minty than anything I have seen for ages, absolutely gorgeous. Rare silver too.Worth 25k+ all day as far as I am concerned.
