944 Petrol RON 95 or 97 - thoughts?

Hello,

Given the 944 was designed to run on 95 petrol, is it a good idea to use 97 or 99?

A new porsche, 97 would be the choice bu for an old one not specially tuned....????

IME, the S2 runs noticably better on premium fuel, the old '86 2.5 it made no difference.

Many 944s werent designed to run on 95RON fuel.

My very early 2.5 specifically states in the original handbook it should run on a MINIMUM of 98RON.

the naturally aspirated 944s are fairly low compression engines (getting 70bhp/litre isn't particularly strenuous) and the book always recommended 95 so that's what I use in my S2. I don't think they have a knock sensor (might be wrong) so the ECU can't 'switch' to give more power on 97 anyway

Unless your car says RON95 inside the petrol filler cap you should use SUL.
