Well I decided to make a video of it :

I can really control that clunk knock with the throttle so easily.

I've replaced the rear engine mount, tranny mount and rear fork arms, oh and drop links and tightened the AR bar...

Well I was less lazy this time well I think I have found the issue:

Hmph, assuming it's a bearing but I am struggling to find this area on the parts catalogue PDF.

Anyone can point me to the area with a PN?

If Porsche did parts for the Tiptronic transmission they'd probably be the best parts for Tiptronic transmissions.........

Unfortunately they don't - apart from obscure seals and the like.

You could try a Mercedes specialist (box was shared iirc)

I did find this section

That bearing looks very off the shelf single row type to me

Thing is, this issue seems so rare that I cant even find anyone else having had the same issue.

Does anyone know what porsche call that Shaft that is making the noise?

Cardan shaft? For the AWD Turbo the shaft that runs from the 6-speed manual to the front diff is called the cardan shaft. This shaft, in the Turbo, has been known to clunk or make noises from a bearing that gets very loose.

IIRC the Tip is a ZF transmission and these are used in lots of cars other than the Porsche. There are a number of shops in most metro areas that are quite good at repairing these.

My tech contacts tell me often they'll have an owner bring in a car with a sick Tip, an owner who has made prior arrangements with a transmission shop to have the Tip rebuild/repaired. The tech will pull the tranny out of the car, the local shop comes picks up the tranny, rebuilds it, brings it back and the tech installs it back in the car.

Well it looks like regardless what I do I need to drop this engine and get the tranny out.

I have a feeling it's that bearing but will see.

I find the lack of any posts about this particular shaft on the c2 tip models mildly worrying.

Were I to own a C2 Tip I'd find the absence of posts on this shaft comforting. Means not too many issues with it. A few no doubt failed early on but in that case the Tip is just removed and replaced with a new one under the warranty.

I'm the opposite, I like to see that I have a common issue and that there is a definite fix and workaround to having to replace the whole tranny!

I find it more comforting to know others have the same issue and have it sorted.
