Boxster S / Cayman S (09-)

Hi, apologies if i'm duplicating, but I would rather start a new topic specifically asking advice for myself than read other people's questions and advice on that!
I currently have an M3 Coupe I bought new in 2012, since then a baby has come along, and decided to get an X3 for added 'protection' and use it as my daily driver.
Since then my M3 has sat in the garage not really being used much and losing a lot of money as time goes on, and I think it's time to let it go to someone who'll use it properly.
I had been looking at something a little cheaper, and a car just for me, so a 2 seater sports, and would like to go back to manual from the DCT in M3.
I have never really given Porsche's the time of day, I will admit, they've never really appealed to me. However, my brother has 2 and sings their praises very often, which got me looking at 2 in particular. The Boxster S and the Cayman S.
Been looking at the 09 onwards models, so 3.4 S in both cars (after the slight upgrade in 09 boosting bhp slightly).
My dilemma.. I am leaning more towards the Cayman S, based on it's looks and as I previously had a convertable and as much as I enjoyed it from time to time in the summer (all 2 days of it in Scotland), I felt a bit embarrassed, and haven't owned one since.
However, I've stumbled across the fact that the Cayman is in the higher tax band, slightly higher insurance group and of course costs a little more to buy, so generally will be a bigger expense all round.
Is it worth the extra cash for the Cayman S or do you think i'd be just as happy in a Boxster S (if I can get over the convertable issue).

if looking at the cayman/boxster make sure you go for the gen2 cars post 2009 both are in the same tax bracket and should be the same insurance.the gen2 caymanS is a great engine and you wont be disappointed.

I'm maybe missing something as i'm not that clued up on the Porsche scene just yet! My brother's got a Boxster S 09, pretty sure it's the Gen2, and i'm sure his tax is £280.. I read somewhere the Cayman S is just slightly over the entry point to £475 tax.
I can see the Boxster's from around £22k to £27k and the Cayman's from about £26k to £30k

you must be looking at a gen1 cayman as this is in the higher tax bracket(250g/km),the gen2 cars are both below 225g/km.I can see the Boxster's from around £22k to £27k and the Cayman's from about £26k to £30k

if you have £30k to spend it might get you a nice manual 2010 caymans at the end of the year with an opc if you haggle hard and can wait a little longer or if you get over your roof fobia and want a second car for a little more cash the awesome boxster spyder!!
the gen2 engine cars are the ones to go for as the engine was fully revised and is proving more reliable and less issues.

good luck in your search some of the options to consider are if you are lucky get one with pse(switchable sports exhaust),shortshift (this really transforms the manual box).I would not get hung up about pasm and 19"wheels as the car rides lovely on standard suspension and 18" wheels and tend to be a bit cheaper like wise with pcm although I would say sound package and usb are essential also sportseats are nice to have option along with xenons I think it'll be a Cayman S gen2 in that caseIf you can stretch to it, this looks a pretty good spec at £35k

As mentioned the Gen2 S cars are all in the £280 tax bracket

It would be the last thing I looked at, if even at all!
It wasn't really the tax in particular.. just meant an all round higher expense.. I had 2 cars in the 475 tax band that renewed at the same time.. wasn't the most pleasant month of the year! I guess I was looking forward to not paying the full wack for tax for a change hahaIt would be the last thing I looked at, if even at all!

Got LSD, 19in alloys, sat nav, phone prep, short shifter.. i think thats mostly of what i can remember off the top of my head lol..
Very pleased with it though, and dare I say it, like it better than the M3!
