Not a good report from this Guy, which is the norm. For the 991tts to out run a 12C is astonishing. The 12C will hit 0-60 in 3 and 0-100 in 5.8, The 991tts is faster. In my book this makes the 991tts the quickest accelerating car on the road.

Trying to compare the feed back with that of the GT3 is just mad, Along with his other comments. Another well respected mag has just vote the C4S the best drivers car of 13, The same chassis of the 991tts.

This not withstanding that small point that spec for spec there is just short off 80k difference in price.

Not seen the Autocar report yet, but guess it would be an early review by SS.

As a past GT3 and Turbo owner, I would expect the relationship between the two to remain very similar. The GT3 will be a car where you savour the moments, the Turbo will be a car that delivers everyday, whatever the weather.

Heard good things about the C4S, where was the review?

I suspect that the GT3 and TT will share most of the same driver aids and dynamically be similar. On that basis, why buy a GT3 when you could wait for the starship Turbo S to arrive. I think, based on the specification of the GT3, it would be a little rich to say that you get more involvement with a GT3 but no doubt some twerp will say it.

Folk need to slow the F** down ! theres a new breed of petrolheads emerging who grew up on Audi TT's, Scoobies, Nurburgring times and Top gear .. these are the people who have now hit a few quid later in life and think that 550 horse in an audi, porsche or ferrari and a handful of computers to control it all is where its at. Pub talk, that's all.

Hey Apolo.

According to the tech specs, I think the Turbo S does not quite have the legs to beat the Mp4 on the 1/4 mile drag or the 0-100-0.

We need insideline and sport-auto to do their thing on the supertests before we will know(?). It is going to be close on the 0-100mph and 0-124mph sprints that is for sure, I can't see the Turbo S walking away.

I think Porsche cleverly included the 4wheel steering and active-aero in order to offset the carbon tub and mid-engined advantages on the directional change speed (or, 'cone tests') and the G-force cornering tests.

The 991 was beaten by both the R8 and MP4 on these measurements so, it will be interesting to see what benefit this tech has on the 991 Turbo.

No talk of PDCC on these reviews yet, I am assuming its inclusion by default means the arguement of the benefits are now moot..?

So you honestly don't think that one being RWD and one being 4WD will make any difference??

Presumably the difference of £30k+ might be somewhat relevant?

Despite EVERYTHING that has been said in all the reports we've seen so far...?

In the race for ultimate speed, and I guess that means ground coverage across real roads, the necessity to assist the drivers inputs increases. Make that restrict drivers inputs.

There is no doubt that this assistance is increasingly affecting driving enjoyment and is talked about in most reviews now.

Surely the road we are travelling down at increasing speed ends with the removal of the driver?

I suspect that Steve's comments are a bit tongue in cheek. The majority of buyers will never get near the potential of either car, so could just as easily buy either. For the last 12 years we've had the Turbo v GT3 debate and the new ones will probably be no different.

Yes, because all the reports I have read have been a little luke warm IMO. It's an automatic GT3....which is light speed quick. Not everyone wants that. The paddles are very efficient, but it would appear at the loss of a serious amount of magic.

Maybe you read different reports than me!

One of the 'worst' comments was that it wasn't quite as involving as the epic 997 GT3 RS 4.0 ...

I think someone else called it the best Porsche ever (at any price).

Remember, the RS version is still to come, so we need to ensure we compare like with like!

Monkey's report was very Luke warm IMO. I'd take his little green car over the automatic every time....

"This is quite a car"
"The chassis is a massive step on..."
"The car turns so much better than the 997 version"
"..Much more agile.."
"The last 500rpm - Wow, just wow!"
"The 20" rims are achingly gorgeous"
"...the way this thing demolishes a road.."
"...the 997 GT3 feels ancient in comparison..." (talking about front end turn-in)
"...better than any electric steering I've ever driven - quite superb..."
"Not once did I wish I had hydraulic steering"
"You'll forget the Metzger ever existed"
"Comfortably the best PDK Porsche has ever made - fast, intuitive..."
"Objectively this car is everything I hoped it would be and better .."
"An amazing noise, takes the game to a new level.."
"I can't beat up what I've got here because it's so good. It's so much fun"
"It is a piece of work..."

BUT

He thinks a GT3 should have a manual gearbox as a matter of principle....

I'll take that sort of 'luke warm" review any day!

Motoring journalists love 'superlatives' and I guess that's what readers are looking for. Personally, there is something about the level of capability that has been engineered and synthesised into cars at this level that leaves me a bit cold.

Fine for efficient day-to-day transportation, but I can see why there is so much growing interest in classics and collectables.

Jethro's review in Evo adds some interesting comments to the debate.

"Better yet is the balance. Sure, there’s some steady-state understeer through most corners, but the four-wheel-drive system and e-diff seem to really work wonders here, allowing you to drive through the understeer to a delicious phase where the car finds a broad plateau of neutrality. On track, you can even get the engine swinging around behind you and make the Turbo S feel like a rear-drive Carrera, despite the active engine mounts and PDCC adaptive chassis working at their maximum."

I am an optimist and await the 991 RS..

However, there is a market for the various models no doubt. This report did nothing to make me want a Turbo, though I am firmly in the n/a camp in any case.

I had to double check I wasn't reading the "Prospective 991 GT3 Owners Discussion" thread ... thought I was going crazy for a second wink
