You don't seriously expsct a proper review from top gear? It's an entertainment programme, nothing more.

Precisely. As car related entertainment, it's unparalleled. I wouldn't base my next choice of car on their reviews though.

Luca's been his usual legendary self and posted the 997 review on sleep-fish.

I was a bit disappointed that the 911S got its "Stig Lap" in heavy rain. Hard to know the car's true capabilities when it's ploughing through huge puddles, and it's hard to really compare a wet lap in the 911 to the dry laps in the other cars.
With a car like the 911, it seems like they should be able to hold on to their test car until a dry day comes up, so they can run it on a dry track. If I were the Porsche folks responsible for the press car, I would certainly let the Top Gear folks have the car for an extra day or two if it meant testing the car on a dry track.

Tiff reviewed the car properly, unlike JC.
Plus he drove it properly unlike JC.

He concluded that there was nothing to touch it, and it was still the best.

Tuff Noodle? Is he Tiffany Dell's brother?

Getting back on topic, I saw both. They both compared it closely with the 996, although oddly (carefully planned??) Top gear had a yellow 996 and a silver 997, 5th gear a yellow 997 and a silver 996. Or was it the other way around?

Anyhow, thewy both gave it a big thumbs up, although both seemed to dismiss the non S version.

Excellent point about the colours, exactly what I was thinking. Clearly Porsche GB are a little sensitive about the similarities between 996 and 997 or else the suspiciously obviously differently coloured cars surely wouldn't have been provided?

Nah, I bet he wasn't allowed to stay up to watch the finish!
