Evo magazine - future investments
Discussion
Received it this morning. Interesting article on cars which are likely to be good investments.
1 to 5 stars, 1 being you shouldn't lose money on it, to 5 which is a "surefire" investment.
996 gt3 rs - 5 stars "get one now before prices go into the stratosphere"
997 gt3 rs 3.8 - 4 stars
Carrera GT - 4 stars
996 gt2 - 4 stars
Just need to get the Gt2 now.
The only other Porkers in there are the 996 mk1 - 3 stars and the Boxster Spyder at 2 stars.

6RS has not lost much money from price new, but is its attraction the small numbers made or because only driving gods can get the best out of it?996 gt3 rs - 5 stars "get one now before prices go into the stratosphere"

I get the 7.2RS & the CGT, although the high entry price of the CGT & volume seem to have kept a lid on prices
996GT2 -the widowmaker does have a certain charm.
Title is wrong, it should read: “Evo magazine - future speculation”.
Cars are not investments. There is no income from the car. The hope is the next person will pay more than the original purchase price, plus costs (running/storage/insurance), and relative rate of compound interest based on the years you own the car(s).
Purchasing a car on purely speculative is just a gamble, interest rates are low and no one wants to hold onto lots of cash, and financial products are awful right now, so people are looking for alternatives, so I can see why people might take a punt. personally I think cars is just another financial bubble waiting to happen. Sure, a few excellent examples will go for mega money, but the vast majority will sit around depreciating.

very true, when you add the yearly costs up of having a car just sitting there, its hardly worth it! i buy cars knowing there going to appreciate, which means i can use them as intended and come resale it takes the sting out of the money i put into them keeping them in tip top condition!Cars are not investments. using mans maths to justify a 60k car purchase is a good way of shutting the misses up tho!!!!

Agree! Just a sad state of affairs if car magazines are purporting to provide "investment" advice. I would always say spend the 60k, enjoy the car, if folks can afford it. The again, if you put 60k in 3.5% interest rate account and stick 250 in monthly (what would have been running costs/insurance) you will double your money in less than ten years. Once interest rates go up, even faster.
