I have a 2003 996 with standard seats.

I have always suffered with a bit of back ache whilst driving it, I have tried fitting inflatable bladders to the seat back and base but have yet to come up with a driving position which is long term ( drive of 3/4 of an hour or more ) comfortable.

I don't get back ache in my works van or on my motorbike so I think its a seat position ergonomics thing.

I already have and use a cg lock which helps somewhat.

Is there anyone who specialises in setting up drivers seats, is it worth looking at the fully adjustable seats as an upgrade, do the ones from a 997 fit or is it 996 or same gen boxster seats.

any links or help greatly appreciated as its the one thing I dislike about an otherwise fantastic car.

Go to a chiropractor and do some core stability exercises. It'll be cheaper.

I had the same issue with back ache in a 996. I could usually last about an hour & a half before having to get out for a walk & put a back support on before continuing.

After swapping to the 997. I can easily do several hours without a problem.
Well worth the change!

I had the same in my 996 and it was the start of the back problems I still have, I must say though the drivers seat gave mild back ache occasionally but the passenger seat would leave me feeling like a cripple on any journey over an hour - even worse if I fell asleep as a passenger as I would be stiff for hours and not in a Viagra way ;0)

I had back ache with every Boxster I had, 987 and 986. I had to sell my 987 due to awful back ache. My 997 with adaptive sports seats is excellent. The adaptive sport seats (as opposed to normal sport-seats) are brilliant you can adjust them in every way imaginable to support you perfectly.

My 964 is wonderful they are 8 way adjustable.

The sports seats in my 996 turbo just about crippled me. I tried every possible seat angle / position but to no avail. Anything over an hour at the wheel was enough to start backache that would last days.

I have always had to spec sports seats on every Porsche I had after the standard seats gave me back ache - never had a problem with the sport seats. But the new shape standard seats in the 991 have seem to be very good.
