996 Turbo "blowing" on start up.

Had the car 18 months and 12,000 miles.

Past day or two when starting from cold it sounds rough as... Mainly from the exhaust . Not too dissimilar to an Audi 4pot when a coil pack has gone...

It drives fine and once warm pulls like it always has.

Any ideas before I drop it off at my specialist?

Hi, could be an exhaust manifold to turbo connection as the nuts corrode and the two parts separate. As the heat gets into the exhaust it expands and seals up.

May be this, but get it checked out.

Thanks Mike. Sounds sensible to me. Not too worried yet as once warm it feels exactly the same. 12,000 miles in and an owner with OCD just know something isn't right. Bombproof??? Old car. But still love it and I reckon you'll be right. I'll keep you posted.

Best thing is to get it up on a ramp. To check underneath for leaks. I agree it could be from the manifolds.

Earlier cars have started to suffer failures of the turbine housing -between the hot and cold sides of the turbo; might be worth a look there too.
