Porsche Sports Exhaust (PSE) - Should I or shouldn't I?

It's not that I'm unhappy with my recent (May '13) purchase of a 997.1 C4, but logic took over at the very last minute and I bought the lower mileage car with recent new brakes/discs and clutch over the one with PSE.

As there are many, many members with lots and lots of opinions on here input is welcome. Should I or shouldn't I.
Oh, and some background requires that I need it to be the original equipment switchable PSE as I need to keep it on an OPC warranty and I actually prefer to keep my cars as OE as possible. Not sure why. Perhaps I was dropped too frequently as a baby.

I didn't understand the fuss until I bought a gen2 with one and tried a few without and after 6 months of ownership it is the noise I look forward to most.
On UK roads I can't really exploit the speed, so the PSE really makes the package for me.Not sure whether it's as necessary on a gen1, far as I can tell they sound as good without as a gen2 with.
There was a thread a few weeks back about the things most important in your car and sound was right up there.

I guess I did already answer it. But, cost is a consideration too! Parts only I can get down to £1,750 inc VAT (Wilmslow OPC) and I can get it fitted for £200. But £1,950 is still a pretty tall order to justify to the wife
Alternatively, I could buy a second-hand pair of mufflers and tips from a breaker and the wiring, mounts and dash button at an OPC. Has anyone had any experience with fitting a second-hand PSE? Did it break?

It was a must have for me when I got mine - so if you can justify the £2K - then I would say go for it. It will help with resale - though you won't of course get £2K back. The sound is fantastic - big uplift in experience, especially windows down on a crisp morning.

I have a 997.1 C4S with PSE, really think I'd be disappointed without it! I had a very loud TVR Cerbera before and thought the 997 was tame but it has something special with the PSE fitted. A fantastic smooth hi-rev tone but can also be very mellow when driven calmly. My PSE button makes no difference to exhaust note so a previous owner has done the mod to it I presume?

As for the £1950, the PSE is one of the few options which adds value to the car, up to £1000. And perhaps the outgoing exhaust has some resale value 2nd hand? So the net cost maybe much less.
Important to understand/be creative with the figures to be able to justify such expenditure to the wife.
On a 997.1, 3.8 its a must do imvho? I paid £1,600 to retrofit back in 2006, so £1,950 isn't really too bad?
It is also one of the cars where you can unplug it full time and not suffer from any drone in the cabin, unlike the 7.1 GT3?
I have specced it, almost by default, on my Cayman S at under £1,500 but I'm not sure that it is so much different to stock, apart from the burbling on the over run?

I was toying with the idea of changing my 997 a while ago but, in the end, I decided to keep it and fitted a PSE back in June this year. I had it done by Porsche Kendal and it cost just over £2k, I have to say I have not regretted it, the noise has to be worth an extra 25bhp and just waking the neighbours makes it all worthwhile...
From a cost justification, I looked at it not as spending £2k but as saving £40k as I didn't buy a new car....

I have to say I'm determined to fit PSE. Noise beats speed any day, especially as I live in a city with tunnels
But, I'm tight too so I like to identify as many ways to mitigate (read justify) the expense the better! Thanks for the tip, the old mufflers must be worth a couple of hundred quid on fleabay I suppose.
