Anyone seen this? Opinions on whether stock/modified, or Porsche being conservative with their figures?

Also a 997 GT3-RS 4.0 v 991 GT3 0-200kph. The 4.0 easily faster after initial PDK-launch advantage (but is expected):

If a stock 996GT3 has 360PS and manages 189mph then this one would need another 26PS and be able to rev to 7650rpm to hit 194mph - may be nicely run in or had a program massage ?

Apparently the 991 GT3 was tested in heavy rain - certainly the conclusion that RS 4.0 is 'easily faster' is hotly disputed (given the quoted performance numbers)!

The 4.0RS has more power and a better power to weight ratio so it's not much of a surprise!

Couldn't see the TC flashing at all ? does heavy rain make any difference if there is full traction ?

The 991 GT3 is rumoured to have close to 500bhp, and elsewhere it was shown that the weight is not materially different to the RS 4.0.

Thus with the advantage of the PDK-S gearbox, and in identical conditions it is not clear that the RS 4.0 would be 'easily faster'...

How did you arrive at 26PS?

200mph less walking speed seems a mightily impressive. And he's off throttle as soon as 313km/h is hit due to traffic. It was climbing like there's 197mph in there.

No evidence of that in the sweep of the needles and as mentioned no TC indication either which would be going bonkers.

With CdA of 0.59 it needs 290PS to hit 189mph and 316PS to hit 194mph according to formuals available here http://www.reverie.ltd.uk/calculate.php#2

The 4.0 does seem to gain revs faster though which suggests it is much stronger in the upper rev range.

I'm betting the 4.0 has much more area under the curve at the top end compared to the party trick "emotion" revver

biglaugh

The 4.0 sounds amazing too by comparison.

It took 3.3 miles to accelerate 20mph.
I'd say there wasn't much left on the table, not to mention where was the wind?

It will make some, as the rolling resistance will be higher due to the waters incompressability.
Prob not that much though, it's not a valid comparison though unless its under the same conditions at te same time on the same bit of ground IMO

What I was thinking, dangerously slow even, loads of time exposed to traffic dangers - another 400hp would have made it a top speed attempt much safer nuts

Did you expect to see more movement? But ok, maybe 197 is a little optimistic but reasonable to say 195mph smile

Not a bad achievement for 1999.

I guess the evidence seem here speaks for itself. Either the 991 doesn't have more than 475bhp, or the 4.0RS has more than 500. Someone made a good point about area under the curve-the 4.0RS might have a more torquey top end.

The 991 may go to 9000rpm but its power and torque might drop rapidly beyond 6k where we're seeing the 4.0RS pull away.

PDK won't make much difference in this situation as the gear changes become less of a factor as they become less frequent at higher speeds.

How quickly you can make your power is a major factor yet no one bothers to pay it much heed. All things being equal then the car that can get to max power more quickly will be faster.
No idea if that's a factor here, but its a very simple reason why cars head to head don't provide results paper would have you believe.
