Hi All

Been Mulling over whether to go public with the issues I've encountered with my Latest Gen Cayenne but I'm so peeved that I feel I must enlighten you all !

Before I start I'd like to advise that I'm a long standing Fan of the Marque with numerous Models owned previously (911 SC 964 C4 993 C2 964 RS 968 CS - presently 997.1 GT3 CS & 944 Race Car) so it sticks in my throat to even have to "go public" on this at all.

I bought new in July 2011 Latest Gen Cayenne Diesel - 47 K Miles to date - Fantastic Driving Dynamics - Fantastic Fuel Consumption (for the Type of Vehicle) BUT :-

Presently at the Porsche Approved Body Shop having a full roof repaint due to "Bubbling" of the roof seam 30 cm from the tailgate forwards - I was told cause may have been contaminant there when the car was built and has finally come through - Porsche 10 year warranty is sorting this but not before I had to get very annoyed with Porsche GB - To date still awaiting cars return from the bodyshop (nearly 2 weeks) but enjoying the 1 Series BMW Loanee immensely (NOT).

Discovered the Drivers Seat has started to split on one of the leather creases - I am a most fastidious owner and very careful with my vehicles - NEVER had this before with any other vehicle EVER - Porsche refusing to replace under warranty - stating "Wear and Tear" defence.

Local Porsche OC not able to convince Porsche GB to sort the seat issue - £.1300 cost with a £.200.00 gesture of goodwill offered !! I agreed to a smart repaier by OP which was FOC but don't think it is sucessfull - can't see why I should have this problem on a vehciles costing so much !

Whilst vehicle was in at the OC for the Smart repair they did a "health check" - Oil Leak discovered at rear of engine - they seemed to know more about this than they let on - having to give them the car for a approx 2 weeks - requires engine out to tackle this matter - may I point out the car doesn't use oil / the Electronic Dip Stick is constantly on the max mark ! They showed me a mobile phone photo of the leak and said it could be something that has built up over a period of time and gone unnoticed due to the under body shields !

I have complained bitterly to the OC and to Porsche GB but I am more than dissatisfied with both their attitude to my problems and the couldn't care less attitude whether I bought another Porsche or not !

I am rapidly losing faith/interest with PORSCHE

All the best

I'm afraid this the road Porsche now seems to be heading down. Best of luck sorting your problems.

Best option - Dump it and buy a Discovery, personal experience with 6 over past 25 years with not ONE problem. Simply the best!

Who is your OPC???

Have you tried speaking with another OPC, to get a second opinion.

In terms of oil leaks from the sump, I'm on my 4th Cayenne, and had oil leak issues with the previous 2, but all sorted to my satisfaction. My current car is due in for service in the next few weeks and I am sure this will need work on a leak!!

Hi

As regards my OPC - Let's just say I'm in W.Yorks

Concerning the New RR Sport - This is probably the only thing I feel MIGHT replace the Cayenne - we do run an Evoqueon our Company Fleet so the connection is there with the Dealership and I'd guess waiting time would not be dissimilar to the Cayenne so MAY be the way to go!

I collect the Cayenne tomorrow PM so keep you posted as regards the Paint repair and of course I'll consider getting a secong opinion from another source as regards the leak so will update then !

Not bad for a motor costing a few Quid short of £.60K - as has been said looks like Porsche standards/build quality has slipped !

Until later.......

Aren't Land Rover pretty much always near the bottom in reliability/satisfaction surveys?

The great thing about the Cayenne is it has very low depn. So you wont lose selling it. I think all marque's are full of holes these days.

I was getting my Merc MOT'd 2 weeks ago and they had a CLS500 in having new balancer shafts. 7 k for an out of warranty car with less than 50k on the engine. Apparently its a common problem, they had done one the week before.

My 525d MSport and my mates 5 series cost us a fortune in maintenance.

My Uncles had 2 failed gearboxes in VW & Audi. I had 1.

My mates Lexus has been as reliable as it is boring.

Sadly if you want an upmarket German car, you might get more than you bargained for.

Small consolation as regards Depreciation factor - looking at the other posts here I'm guessing we have to put up with Second rate Build Quality / Engineering when we purchase quality vehicles from whatever up market manufacturer we choose - we all must be stark raving mad !

And two years, and the paint and oil leak being sorted under warranty, and neither of the issues caused the thing to breakdown. It sounds to me as you're being treated well enough.

I'd have thought a trip to Southbound would be worth it, seeing as they can recover a seat for the sort of money your talking for a repair.

Listen - I don't accept such paint defects whether rectified or not - it shouldn't happen especially in the area it did happen !

I'm not paying my own money to Southbound or any other trimmer to repair a seat which has failed not due to my use or abuse - yes the car has done 47 K miles - so what! it looks as new - That's why I refused Porsche's offer of £.1100 for a new seat (As opposed to £.1300)

I don't understand how anyone can just ACCEPT this type of thing out of hand to be honest.

Anyway the post was put on here to give any Cayenne Owner or prospective owner the heads up - I'll leave it up to you to decide from reading this thread.

That explains quite a lot.

Also 1300 for a rip in the leather? Have they gone mad? I say continue to pursue the avenue of defect as not performing like it should but if that fails you can get the damaged section of seat easily retrimmed for a fraction of that cost..

Again. First part of the message explains a lot. Would rather ship my car to South Africa.

Just do the right thing and buy a Land Rover. No, not one of the fancy Discos or RRs.

Defender, that's what you require. Also in ten years time it will be still worth more than the Porsche, Disco or Rangy added together.

You know it makes sense. :-)

Op - sympathies although not sure u have been too badly treated and unlucky - however u are 100% about the way Porsche behave when an issue although the OPC can also make a major difference. Since vw purchased its even more about bottom line and having spoken to reading numerous times on the 997.2 gt3 centre lock issues clearly customer loyalty and satisfaction counts for nothing.

I've done 43k mls over 32 months, in a 2011 Cayenne.

The only notable issue was a very small oil leak from an oil cooler at 36k mls. Otherwise it's eaten the miles with comfort and ease, and been the epitome of reliability.

Mr.freight,

You are being picky and it sounds like you have been treated fairly.

Have a nice strong cup of coffee and enjoy the motor when it comes back.

Not sure if serious?

I would agree with OP in that a 'new' car should not have these defects - simple. The car seat is a tricky one in that a couple of years and a lardy 4rse could easily split stitching if clumsy. You know (OP) this is not the case but they don't. Porsche GB certainly don't.

Having said that, I am surprised at the lack of good will beings hown by your OPC.

Good Luck

Hmmm, a bit touchy aren't we?

I never said that you should accept either of these issues, just that you have been lucky if the problems listed are all you've had.

Many Porsches suffer far worse than that, they are not the 'hewn out of rock' legends some think they are.

OP...try Tweeting about it. Porsche may pay attention to that as the social media stuff seems to be driving most large brands' thinking right now with regard to customer care and action.
