Picked it up today from JZM, where it went having purchased from Hairpin. What a car. I'm covinced that anything Manthey'd must be the dogs danglies.

I think I've now got to buy a gen 1 997 RS and put the Manthey 4.1 litre engine in it. It must be epic. This car is already sensational.

Thanks, such great cars. Is that your RS?

Mine isn't a 3.9 I don't think. It's just the standard JZM Manthey upgrade, costs 10k? Last owner did it. Makes it plenty quick enough. I can only imagine how mega the RS must be with a 4.1 and akrapovic exhaust. Too noisy though for most track days.

That 3.9 is seriously quick to the extent you'd believe it had +100 over the 997. Not so on paper.

Only thing I'd like to sort on mine is the steering wheel sits too low, basically not enough adjustment. Maybe I can get the seat lower.

Also the KW is pretty fidgety. I wonder what stock suspension with a fast road set up would be like.

Is your seat sat on a recaro riser?

My car is on stock suspension and is great on the road. Still a very active chassis, though I like this.

This has probably been discussed umpteen times but seriously, £10K for an exhaust, intake and remap ?

I'm not knocking the conversion in any way but just find it hard to justify in my own mind the cost of it ??

I'll need to check that, thanks for the tip.

As for the chassis, the reason I bought it was for exactly that. I like anything with a mobile chassis, or more power than grip. I can just tell this car isn't over gripped, it's a proper drivers car. I'm questioning what the stiffer suspension brings to the party. If I could get it to be a little bit more compliant and still as direct, then that would be great.

Has yours got the 3.9? If so, what does that involve/cost. The noise of mine is great.

IME, people have a tendency to set the KW's far too stiff for compliance on the road. It's adjustable but it's enough of a pain to change that people tend not to. Try setting it to full soft & work up from there. The actual spring rates are not too bad, but if the bump & rebound are set too high they won't operate to their full travel.

Cost of the 3.9 conversion is £20,400 + VAT

Based on the video, the 3.9L is also available for the mk1 then? The Manthey page only mentions the mk2 for this kit.

I didn't pay for the conversion so no issues on value for me. I like the idea of the 440 although I'll say I don't think its slow as it is!
I'll play around with the suspension. I don't use it that often so I'm sure I can put up with it.
Anyone had Exe-tc dampers?

Im personally not a fan of the KW stuff (for whatever thats worth). Its an upgrade from factory stuff if you are looking for track use etc thats for sure but I think there are far better options available. Its not a monotube design for a start but beyond that, the spring rates they use are very odd being a relatively very soft front and relatively very hard rear.

One may argue that they have discovered something unique with this combination but its hard to maintain that position when you look at the amount of development and use these cars have had over the years. If a v soft front/ hard as heck rear was the secret to extra speed or feel then you can bet everyone would be running this setup. The actual rates are in the public domain so both their approach and the rates used are not a secret but yet no one, and I mean no one is copying this approach.

Is that my old car? Speed yellow reg V354? I was the second owner from when it was 2 years old and kept it for about 10 years. Great car.

Yes that's it. Love it. What was it like on stock suspension? I'm thinking about taking the Manthey up to 440 as well?

Agreed, but the KW stuff is built to a (fairly low) price. AIUI, the version of KW that Manthey supplies isn't using the standard KW settings as they are "optimised" for the Nordschleife which seems to translate to somewhat softer spring rates than would be optimum on a conventional race track. They also reputedly change the valving to suit.

My car has the KW and a fast road set up, its bloody stiff. It feels way stiffer than previous GT3 and RS' I've had.

Apparently the Exe tc system is much better. I'll give it a go. The harshness of the ride is really my only complaint, that and the lack of steering wheel adjustment.

my KW CS Mantheys are harsh on the road, added to this all my suspension is full rose jointed. it does come good on the track though and the build quality is superb plus it's relatively cheap compared to the superior JRZ, Moton, Ohlin, EXE TC etc...

Momo Cup/07 wheel & OMP spacer boss is close to the perfect position...

Will speak to JZM about the wheel. Thanks. I'm keen to try these exe tc dampers but I'll persevere with mine for now. I need to get it on a good road B road, although it does feel like it'll spit me off over some more bumpy stuff!

Now just got to decide about that extra 40bhp.....

I have KW V3s on mine, set up by JZM and agreed its very stiff. Great on a nice smooth track but it gets a bit "interesting" over broken surfaces at speed. I've been looking for a std set of dampers to refurb for a while but not seen any.

Yeah kw spring rates are usually fairly hefty esp at the rear. Mine runs standard OE dampers and springs just recently been refurbed and its perfect for the road ... 4000 miles from the pyrenees to dolomites and Grossglockner ... Couldnt ask for more. I doubt you will want a CS after the Mk1.
