Best / best value sat nav

Hi all

Potential present for my girlfriend next month. Have no fixed budget in mind as I don't know what they cost really.

Can anyone point me to what is generally considered the 'best' or 'best value' sat nav / sat nav brand? And could anyone point me to any good deals on currently?

Cheapest Garmin you can get , that'll do the job.

Anything else is just bells and whistles that you don't need.

Had one for about 6 years, switch on , put in postcode or address , press go , job done.

cheapest tom tom one on amazon with whole european map- works a treat..

I use TomTom with live services, ideal for me jumping in and out of cars.

I prefer to use a standalone satnav in case the car I'm in doesn't have a working cigarette lighter, that way I only drain the battery on the satnav leaving my phone still working.

The TT Live services are very good, live traffic saves me hours a month and live speed camera updates, if someone in front passes a camera van and tags it I get to know as I approach. The services work so well I commute with the TT running, even though I know the route with my eyes closed, just turn instructions to silent and I get advanced warning of traffic, and camera vans.

I got a Garmin with free updates for life- from Halfords, about £90....it's perfect for the job
anywhere in the UK.
Although on the box it said 'Europe' it transpires that you need to pay £30+ to download a French map etc from the Garmin website.....but in the UK it's ready to go.
