Please PM me if you're selling or want to sell a 996 RS for sensible money. I've just bough a 996 GT3 and I think I've got to have an RS.
Thanks

a) Your reasoning is totally correct
b) I did the same - kept my wonderful Mk2 GT3 just 5 months - kept driving past a dealership that had a 996RS and couldn't stand it anymore.
c) I'm a fking idiot for selling my 996RS.
d) The car is absolutely BRILLIANT.
e) NO RHD's available - go LEFT.

Finally in full bloom.

Do you want one to track or as a road car?

Lhd is so much better from the point of view of the driving position assuming you are comfortable enough with the rare times when restricted vision on public roads become a bit annoying. This holds for all 996/997.

I have had enough of LHD cars. It just means more of often than not I drive something RHD. This is after years of F cars in LHD.

In terms of what I want, really I'm open minded. I'll probably modify the car myself anyway.

fair enough.
fwiw, the 996/997 has a rather skewed pedal position that compromises things in the RHD car. i cant think of driving any other car in LHD and RHD versions where things have been so different. the wheel well position means that the pedals cant be directly in front of the driver in the RHD. i absolutely hate it myself but i can only think of one other person running round in an LHD 996 here so clearly most folks dont care that much or feel trade off not worth it.
you can also run a 90L fuel tank (v 64L) in the LHD cars too so there are tangible benefits though how much each matters is up the individual.

long term value, you are perhaps better placed in an RHD car but being devoid of a crystal ball thats simply a extension of seeing the RHD aircooled cars rocket.

I know what you mean. I'm big on ergonomics and driving position, but Porsche are so much better in this respect than most other manufacturers that I've never had a problem with their cars.

I've already owned in the past a 996 GT3 mk2, 997 GT3 mk1, 997 RS mk2 and I currently own a 996 GT3 mk 1. So it's not a foray into the unknown. As for the tank, useful but still not enough to tempt me!

Why we don't get offered the full compliment of options in the UK has always rankled me.

Surprised you did not keep the 7.2RS

Even more surprised I neglected the offer of a factory 4.0. I'd just lost 20k on the RS and felt a bit aggrieved. That I do regret.

I didn't drive a RHD until some years in LHD cars. The cups are all LHD. As such the pedal offset stood out quite a bit and was v uncomfortable. Had it been the other way round, then I can see that being used to the RHD, the benefit of the LHD position may well have been fogged by it feeling unusual. I'm also pretty tall so that may change things. Both pure assumptions of course.

Things like fuel tanks are pretty much packaging issues. Porsche made the tanks for the Cups which are all LHD. As such the street cars were offered them simply because Porsche had some available already. They didn't make them specially for the cars, giving RHD an option would have required a special design and manufacture since the steering column location would prevent the tank fitting.

No I get that, I find LHD Ferrari more comfortable than RHD. The latter tend to give me back ache and I blame the off set

Having the end plates re lacquered and that horrid white wrap taken off them. I sort of like the wing without the plates

Tks Tonto should have them back on next weekend. The mess the glue makes of the carbon Is terrible. I'd not recommend anyone to do it

I believe many a 996 RS could do with a refresh/relacquer of the carbon fibre bits. The original factory lacquer was prone to a bit of weathering

Attached below are a few before and after images of a previous car I had. It should not be all that expensive either and also helped to completely eliminate some surface scratches (in the lacquer layer).

They look great. I may have to get the mirrors and the rest of the spoiler done at a later date.
