Hi all, just acquired my first Porsche, a 997 turbo. Now i've read the radiators go quite regually as I saw one for sale with about 20,000 on the clock who had his changed at 11,000 miles. Then on closer inspection I noticed the car i've bought had them changed at 8,000 miles. Can this be right it seems a major floor in design, do we just have to live with changing radiators as often as oil.

This has been covered many times, but when I had a 996t I had to have new rads, but also had a protective mesh kit fitted at the same time while the bumper was off; my Indie in Knutsford made up his own kit, and I would imagine most decent Indies offer this service.
Worthwhile doing, but if you don't, make sure you clean out the debris/leaves etc as these can cause the rads to rot.

I just had to replace the cntre rad and one ac rad in my 996 T purely caused by the leaves rotting the rads away, I chose not to fit the mesh behind the grills though, a guy who works in aerodynamics actually stated in a thread they would cut airflow by 20%, its an easy job and I managed to get both rads really cheap.

As mentioned above, I have mesh and grilles with no increase in running temperature. And that includes sitting in traffic and high speed runs with 30'C ambient temperatures.
