buying a Porsche, Cayman S or 997 C2?

I'm currently contemplating selling my two cars to finance a Porsche. Undecided between a Cayman S or a 997 C2 (both first gen).
I do like everything about both cars despite being quite different. My budget is £20K (could be slightly stretched...).
It will be used a daily driver mainly and the occasional track day (once I know the car....)
What are your thoughts please?

with a £20k budget, i think you get more for your money with the Cayman S. i have a Gen 2 Cayman and my brother has a 997 Gen 1. the running costs, insurance between the two cars is a good distance apart. i do like the 997 but as a daily driver, i think the cayman would be easier to live with day to day. plus it will handle much (well a bit) better imo
I do like the 997 don't get me wrong, but the back seats are purely aesthetic, just dead weight....
One major issue I see is that 'everyone' has one, my neighbour parked one car length away has a 997 C4 and my other one has a 997 GT3 ... you see where I'm going
At work, in the car park I think I've counted close to 6 or 8 997 and one 996.
I don't see that many Caymans on the road, well at least not as many new-ish 911's.
Don't want to start a flame war between the two camps but I need to look at all the pro and con. I need to make the right purchase

I started with a gen 1 Cayman S, and moved to a gen1 997 c2s after 2 years, both of them for daily drive/work mileage.
I definately say you need to drive them both, my honest opinion is that I think I had more fun in the Cayman as its such a great chassis and you can throw it around more on our poor roads.

20k gets you a nice 2007 30k Cayman
but only a 2004 60k miles 997

04 will be 10 years old soon, 10 year old cars need a lot of money spending on them imo.
buy wrong and you could be into shocks, disks pads, dif, clutch's rad, pipes etc etc.
not to talk about electric issue and crap sat nav lol
now it's winter I would save hard as nails and look at gen 2 Caymans in Spring 2014.
the gen 2 car is a much better car and also safer for the odd track day, gen 1 cars are not really track day safe due to oil issues.

Newer nav and centre console refinments. Peace of mind from DFI engine but slightly quieter.But still essentially the same experience. I wouldn't fret too much if money doesn't permit a GenII.

Gen 2 997s are infinitely better than gen 1s.1 385 bhp up from 350bhp.
2 Better interior etc and Nav
3 Option of 7 speed pdk light years ahead of 5 speed tiptronic
4 Gen 1s had some engine issues (ref separate PH subject), wheras Gen2s no problems.
