I have just been perusing the classifieds and I genuinely never realised just how cheap these were.

My M3 Saloon is off to munich legends next week and I'm possibly looking at something to run for a year that I won't lose too much if any money on. I've always fancied a 911 now seems to be a good time to make the move.

So to the Porsche gurus out there that actually follow pricing have these done their depreciating or will they continue to fall?

..It's not about how cheap they are to buy, it's finding 1 that's had all the work done to it that needs doing so it doesn't hurt you too much to get right.., I had 1 inspected recently which turned out to need £7.5K spending on it, cheap is often for a reason. They are expensive to run/maintain but the depreciation is now low.

I bought mine 3 years ago, and the value fell for 2 years, but in the last 6-12 months, this seems to have stopped, and values seem to be quite static IMO at the moment. I think many have latched on to what value they are, which is helping keeping prices from falling further.

If you buy one with a full 1 year warranty, you shouldn't find it too painful.

Bought mine already significantly modified from Malton & the first year was no pain at all.

Only things replaced were discs & pads, but I did have a few trackdays & V Max.

Great cars had 2.
Inspection is paramount, i never bothered with any warranties.

Rads/condensers/Heat shields on turbo's and exhaust.
Clutches/discs.

Bullet proof engines within reason, you do get a bit of IMS noise but thats normal.

Only down side they are a bit sterile and maybe too refined.
Noisy pipe and a re-map= big fun for your mular.

I can't see why they won't continue to fall in value, yes they are a hell of a lot of car for the money, but they aren't rare and there's no reason why they won't continue to depreciate, but it won't be dramatic.
My brother has just sold his for 19k to a garage having bought for 27k 3 years ago also from the same garage (he was happy to buy expensive and sell cheap for convenience sake) and spent a fair bit on the usual (rads etc), and his was and is a good one.
Having driven it I must echo what Crimp says - blistering quick, incredible traction, but rather detached and sterile and this one was chipped.
I doubt you'll fall in love with one but you'll have a lot of fun fooling around.

Problem is i hear what you're saying but a lot of poor ones are cheap, this does not reflect price of good ones. As there is so much crap out there you'll find good honest enthusiast owned "standard" cars with the correct wheels good colour combo combined with good history will command strong money. They also sell well.
My 996 turbo's sold very quickly and for the good money as they were stunning condition throughout and looked after.
I would suggest most of them under 20-21k will be poor-average examples, and well known specialists will not stock these types of 6t's

But given the price differential between a bad one and a good one gets bigger its better value to buy a poor one and get it up to the good standard - not for everyone though and no idea what that price difference would be.

You can lose 7-10k quite easy getting a poor one up to speed.
So no buy the best you can afford, which is well sorted.
Normally poor history etc reflects on its past owners.

But say you could buy a 996 Turbo for £14 k then surely that's worth it and deal with the issues as they arise?

I've seen a stabilising of prices over the last 12 months, great car, I love mine, just need to get to use it a bit more (I've a daily driver and the kids are getting too tall to sit in the back). I will let mine go once I feel I've really got it out of my system and will either scratch the prancing horse itch, a per 73 911 or a 997 GT3

I think, like previous models, the owners of good ones are trying to keep them. This leaves the poor ones to be punted on after the owner has had a bit of fun, skipped a service and spent very little on the upkeep of the car. This will increase the price difference between a good one and a bad one. it took me between 9 months and a year to find mine.

They are great cars, and I hate to think how much money I'd have to add to mine to get another car I'd enjoy more............

Spending money on a car doesnt take the miles or years off it do they?

For £14k i'd hate to see what you get into, but suspect damaged/villainous/supercar hire/experience days type of history.

Let us know how it goes though eh? thumbup

Lets face you're not going to get a 6T for 14k, they don't exist.
