Oil change

my 997 had its major service earlier this year. im approaching 10k miles and was thinking of just having the oil changed. As my car has opc warranty i got a quote from the dealers who said it would be £230 which i thought was expensive

IS it worth getting an indy to do it? would they use the same oil/filters? I would do it myself but I wouldnb't know where to start.

A good indy should be able to do that for about £150 and using oem filter and oil.

I doubt you'd save more than £70-£80 max - better to use the OPC, get a nice courtesy car & free wash & vac and maintain your warranty. Given you've done that mileage in such a short time then personally I wouldn't bother though if it's not been on track.

That's a good point but if I wait until my next service I would have done 20k between services.

I read that this was bad and could cause bore scoring.

If all you want is an interim oil change then shock horror you can get the right spec oil (specially ordered in) from Kwik Fit and it will cost you about £50. Did that for mine a couple of months back and will do so again in the winter.

I went through the same thought prices as you when I recently purchased my 987, to me 20k between oil changes didn't feel right. I have an OPC warranty & the car has been 'over' serviced by fastidious previous owners. My local OPC wanted £253 for oil & filter change. I was having a few other items completed (drive belt change & spark plugs) & managed to agree a price of £45 plus VAT for the oil change if I supplied my own oil. Got Mobil 1 from Costco for £60 (10 litres), so it only cost £114. Worth it for piece of mind plus the stamp in the book. As long as I keep the car I will get an annual oil change.

If you don't want to use Mobil 1, I think Opie oils have 25% off at the moment.
