993 pricing question

hi

what price range should I be able to get a 1996/1997/1998 993 for? With Turbo alloys.

and say 60000-90000 miles

Doesn't seem to be many of these for sale at the mo..

There are loads of variables though, there are no 2 cars the same.

With 'all usual issues' done by recognised expert in last couple of years make that nearer £30k. Not expert on Turbo wheels. Add Varioram for value but not such an advantage if general condition poor.

Biased, as I have one... and just working through 'all usual issues'...

Yup usual issues

1, creaking windscreen ...... pay for replacement, because original badly fitted after previous owner had the scuttle rust done . £900.00
2, Shot dampers, springs and top mounts £2350.00
3, Shot engine mounts ........................... £300.00 did myself
4, Just gives up the ghost for no reason aircon..£50 to £2000.00 depending
5, Clutch and flywheel ..........................£2000.00
6, Wheel bearing ................................ £300.00
7, Service ..................................... £450.00 - £1500.00
8, Replacement rear screen because your rear wiper decided to fall off and scratch your screen ............................ £?????

You just got to love the 993. I wouldn't worry too much about the purchase cost.

Go and get one with over 100K mileage, you then wont keep watching the mileometer adding up, and for the difference of 10K miles, you could save 20% of the cost of the car, and it could well be a better one. It wouldn't both me with 180K miles on the clock if I was in the market.

I've been looking for a manual C2 coupe for a couple of months and there aren't many to choose from.

I've decided not to hold out for a varioram model, and to prioritise a regular service history over mileage. I expect to spend around £30K.

But remember these are things needed after nearly 20 years and 60k - 80k mileage, and won't need doing again for a long time. So at £30k expect most of them to have been done or not need doing right now. A/C will HAVE to have had a new evaporator (fuel tank out) to solve constant niggling problems. I am saving up for mine (£1000).

Good point re mileage but 2013 market likes under 100k.

C2S in a great colour and with a low mileage. I'm sure that will sell for close to £40K.

Yeh, the S and 4S are on the move. They've had a circa 10-15k premium over the Carrera narrow body for some time.

This is the best advice you can follow. These cars eat miles with ease and are very robust. Yes, they are getting old and still need expensive maintenance but most of it is not really mileage related, its just age.

Good 993s are getting increasingly harder to find. My Indy tells me that clean cars hang around in the show room for "hours". That's if they are not sold before they arrive.

Maybe add in rear chassis leg corrosion as this becomes more common as the cars age...

Yes, you may be able to buy an NB Manual Coupe for £20-22k, but....when you take it to a decent garage of choice for it's first service or MOT or check-over...be prepared to get your wallet out.

There is no such thing as a cheap 993.

Varioram commands a premium.

Under 100,000 miles commands a premium. (like it or not, sellers)

Manual 2wd Coupes demand a premium.

A set of Hollowspokes plus tyres will be £2000.

Non-original 17" or 18" wheels are usually too heavy, and need to be changed.

I'll add to Wozy's list with Alternator, HT Leads, Spoiler Curtain, CV Boots... another £1000 ex labour.

I know.

I bought a really nice one for around £20k a few years ago and have spent £14,000 in maintenance = £34,000.

I haven't yet had the chassis legs done, but the jury's out on that particular spend.

They are great cars and once you've spent the money, won't need it doing again for another 18 years....(we hope).

No cheap way around it, because the parts are so expensive and anyone half-decent will charge a fair whack for labour, and they're not quick to fix.

I'm glad they are going up in price, because the good ones will owe their owners lots of dosh.

When buyers get a bit more realistic with their offers then they might find more on sale.

Couldn't give them away in the late 80's.
