Indicator failure temp

Out for a run today in my 2002 Carrera when it lost power for a few seconds , then the temp gauge stopped working and the temp light started flashing, and indicator failure came on on the display. The engine temp seems ok, the car is running perfect, would it be a temp sensor?

Sounds like a sensor failure to me.

I should have said it is a Tiptronic. I just tried putting on the ignition when the engine is warm and the temperature guage is not working
