I've noticed lately there are number of 996TTS's for sale almost touching 40k, what is the view on these cars? Are they really worth such a premium on a 996TT and is the 997.1TT seen as a leap forward / much better?

Thanks in advance

I think in the future the 996 turbo S or non S will prove to be a better car than the 997 turbo. The 4wd system on the 997 turbo isn't as good from a drivers perspective. The 996 feels like a rwd car whilst the 997 does not hence the 996's handling is far sweeter. The steering is also vastly better on a 996 turbo. The VTG turbos on a 997 aren't as reliable or tuneable as the normal turbos on a 996.

996 Turbo S is the smart buy in my view. I went for the 997 turbo as it was the latest and greatest but with hindsight should have bought a 996 turbo S. I personally prefer the styling on the 996 turbo too. 997 wins on the interior for me as the plastics used by Porsche in the 996 really look cheap and nasty (quite easy to have it all covered in leather though).

Wow, interesting write up there.

I've been thinking for a while now about chopping my lightly breathed on 996tt in for a 997tt. I was always wary for the exact points you make, plus I've had all the major 996tt issues resolved over the past 18 month or so.

This coupled with your views.......Now I'm just about decided, I'm keeping my 996 smile

Just my opinion as there's loads on here that swear their 997t is better than their previous 996t.

Much of the premium must be related to the fact that the S is a later year model, but of course "S" on the boot must be worth something!

I'm not in a position to compare s/non s but I have read that the larger turbos on the S means that there is a slight bit more noticeable lag, the non-s being slightly more driveable. So it has been said.

Well they have rarity & the x50 pack on their side making them more desirable.
Some see the PCCBs as a future cost liability.

Quite a different power delivery to standard turbo. Although the X50 gave it more power, there was a noticeable amount more lag from the larger turbos, which personally I didn't like when I drove one.

I had the standard car and had it mapped. Have the best of both worlds, quick spool up and more grunt. Well worth it.

Re PCCB, I had those on my TT too, and not only were the discs still mint when I sold the car at 46k miles, it was still on the original pads !!!!! And yes, I really knew how to drive it.
IMO, as long as the car hasn't been tracked, the discs should way out live the car.

Great cars.

Hi,

I bought a 996 Turbo S from RPM at Tring beginning of September, can't collect until middle of October due to work......

So frustrating......

Hopefully it will be one of the ones to hold its value due to rarity etc

Will soon be joined by a 577hp S63......

I know of a 996 GT2 in Germany with PCCBs (previous generation discs) with 180K road miles (not KM) and they are still also like new.

I saw yesterday a 997t gen 1 'S' (well that's what it had on the engine cover). What's one of those then? :-)
