Any thoughts before I bid?
Are you about to bid on a £10k car without viewing!? Brave indeed. 
I'd only do that with a good indy and even then there's only one or two I'd trust.
My rule with those engines when searching for one for a friend recently, was only buy one that had had a Hartech rebuild. I'm not saying every car that hasn't had a rebuild will blow up but I just wouldn't want the risk of having to spend £8k on a repair, on a car worth £10k.
Good luck though. I hope it's a good one for you if you win it. Interior is very marmite but at that price buy on condition, which unfortunately you only have the sellers description of so it's going to be a bit of a gamble.

that "showcar" has been for sale for literally years. I haven't viewed it but all I can say is one of the iconic details of a 911 is the 5 dials, yet the sellers of that car have replaced them with some LED back lit tat.
Number one thing to decide upon when shopping for a 911 is, how will it be used?
If it's a weekend toy, any one will do, although 996 onwards don't have the cutesy looks of the little air-cooled ones. If its a daily driver then 996 onwards become the more sensible choice.
Whatever you go for though, most people prefer standard or near standard examples. Easily revertible mods are ok, like wheels or exhausts, etc but that car would take quite a bit to make it standard.
You may not prefer standard but all I would say is if the poop hits the fan and you need out of it for any reason, a standard car will always sell quicker or for a higher price, usually both. It's nice to know that if needs be you could probably sell what you own fairly easily.
Learn all about the different models and ask on here. Most people are happy to talk you through the pros and cons of each model. Most of us have owned a few.

No insults intended to anybody. Had a very busy day at the coal face. Understand all the points made. The auction job went for 9.2k. Possibly a bargain off ebay. The show car I ,know is a bag of modified tricks. However, how many Non Porsche fans would know, unless they got inside the car. As it blasts past in Porsche 911 clothes, nobody knows internally it's the Emperors outfit. However only 6k on the clock for 12k, it looks a bit of a steal. At present I drive a 2005 Boxster. Love it to bits. However I want to try the 911 experience without busting the moth eaten wallet.
Did drive a 1983 911, but the clutch hurt me, as for the missus. It was a no brainier, hence Boxster.
