hi I have just bought a set of new Michelin pilot sport ps2 tyres for my 02 996 c4s but realised they are 295 35 18 and not the 295 30 18 which is on there now will this make much of a difference?

The 35 profile is over 4% 'bigger', so on a C4 I would say you should not fit them.

I think there's a chance that the different sidewall height could mess up the 4wd sensors. Maybe someone else can confirm this, or not.

Good chance the tyres will put on the ABS or ESP lights because of the different rolling circumference.
Had this happen on various vehicles I've had in for repair for these lights on.
Only to find they just had some new tyres fitted, which as it turned out were the wrong profiles.
Swap them for the right ones.

Not the best bit of bargain shopping I've seen!!
It's not the larger rolling radius that is the issue per se. I run 315/30/18 rears with no problems but they match the front rolling radius 235/40/18.
As others have said mismatching sizes front/rear means different wheel speeds and this affects the viscous coupling.
Being pragmatic I'd try selling them on and if they won't sell just try them and see.

Also would be totally incorrect for any tyre fitter to actually fit them to your vehicle, would seriously compromise the company ethics in court of law if they knowingly fitted wrong tyre

If spotted would also be MOT fail.

A 315/30 is much closer in rolling radius to a 295/30 than is a 295/35.

A 295/30 has a nominal tyre height of 88.5mm. The 315/30 is 6mm higher but the 295/35 is almost 15mm higher, 30mm on the diameter. Even with a matching front tyre, that would seem a bit much in terms of ride height etc.

Yes you can fit them and run fine. The 295/35/18 is actually one of the approved winter sizes for the 11" rim, hence why Nokian make an N rated one. Otherwise you have to get a 10" rim and fit 265/35/18.

But the 295/35/18 will look a bit strange to the eye, I exaggerate when I say it will look like you've fitted a tractor tyre.

I do have a pair of correct size 295/30/18 M PS2 N3 on the shelf if you wish to go down that route.
