Targa owners: how often do you open the roof?

I'm thinking that a Targa is a good halfway house between a coupe and a cab. Personally I'd feel conspicuous in a cab, horse for courses.

But do Targa owners have the roof open very often? I ask because I've read it obscures rear visibility. Is that lovely glass roof a novelty that wears off, or is yours in daily use?

I have a 997.2 T4S and I did open the roof every day during the summer. It does obscure the rear-view, but if you keep both tailgate and roof glass clean, it's not too bad if the light is good, ie during the day. The door mirrors are very good and I never tire of looking at its curvaceous backside in them! I have two sons (16 and 13). If the 13 year old sits in the back behind his brother, he has plenty of room with the roof closed. He can't sit there with it open as it takes up a lot of headroom and I would be scared he might bump his head on the mechanism for the blind.
Don't forget the opening tailgate is a useful bonus on these. And the chrome strip down the side is unique to them too. They do rattle a bit over bumpy roads.
It's personal taste of course, but I was at a track day recently and met a 997.2 GT3RS owner who said if he had a 911 as his daily driver he'd have a Targa 4S for its looks and practicality. I thought that was cool of him to say so as I would have swapped mine for his without blinknig!
My OPC told me that in a typical year they sell 75% coupe, 23% cab and 2% targa, so there aren't many around. This means if you're buying, they're unpopular and you can try haggling the price down but it you're selling they're rare and so you can mark them up!

Be happy that your in the situation to decide on roof open or not. Life is short enough and top of my Porsche list is a Targa, don't look here for advice, do what feels right and enjoy.

I saw a Targa pull up in the Spaniards Inn in Hampstead not so long ago and it looked amazing.

Have had a glass roof targa for some time and still use it at any oppotunity . you still have to watch getting your head burnt in very hot weather and you will look a nob if you wear a cap or hat so every thing closed and air con on hottest days .. you would be suprised how often i have lowered the roof in in the winter with the heater on .Targa advantages you can put the roof up or down at any speed . fab where you want to see the view drove to Italy a while back and going through the alps with the glass roof was amazing. Rear visability has never been a concern after several years use to it .. It is not as if you are driving a lorry !!! + with the rear seats down I can sling two folding bikes in the "Hatch Back" I have owned 911 tin tops and soft tops but to me the targa is the best!!! probably why I have kept it as a daily driver for so many years

If it's not raining, the hatch is open - winter or summer, day or night.
