Porsche Cayenne V6 07 plate knocking!

Hi all,

After using the misses motor today as mine needs new brakes! I noticed on acceleration and my arm on the centre console, I can feel and faintly hear a knocking, gear box, diff? The faster I'm going, the increased knocking.
Doesn't feel good at all!

Any ideas?

Do you think best option is to take it to Porsche main dealer for diag?

Best bet would be a Porsche indy, and start looking at Touareg diffs, as for some reason the Porsche ones are triple the price.

does the sound change much when you accelerate then coast ?
supposed to be a way of diagnosing this issue
moderately common from what I understand (though neither of my KN's suffered)
not a silly priced fix though, and pretty much any garage should be able to fix it for you.
no need to be raped by an OPC

I called a Porsche indy this afternoon, explained the issue and they told me the shaft bearing needs replacing or along those lines.

£700 + Vat!!! + labour

Seems a lot?

Google prop shaft repairers, lots of businesses around the country do the Touareg and Cayenne replacement for around £200 or so ( +vat). Just get local garage to do he spanner work.
VW garage quoted around £1500 replacement on a Touareg I had.

There is an engineering firm in Northwich/Cheshire which replaced the bearing for me for £65.

When looking/buying the part what is it exactly I need, main dealer or eBay for part?

There was someone on ebay actually selling the bearing on its own for around £85, that was a couple of years back though.

It is the cardan propshaft that is the problem, or rather the bearing that sits on it. The problem is that the whole prop tends to get replaced rather than just re-new the bearing - hence the expense.

I think it’s just the bearing, but like you said it looks like they are charging me for the shaft as well and then re-use the old and make money on that!?!

If that's RCPRP on Ebay, a recon Cardan Shaft cost me £65 plus postage (it's heavy) back in June 2012.

It's just the kit, but you can send the shaft and they fit it for you and send it back. I've just sent an email to see if I can take the motor down there.
