boxster 3.2s 2005/cayman 2006 3.4 ish

Looking to buy a boxster 3.2 s or cayman 3.4 have about 18k to spend. Like to do the odd track day would both cars be up to it ? Found a loveley 25k miles 3.2 s for sale (mint con with OPC 1 year warranty) at a specialist dealer locally for 15k but not sure if its worth it, should i wait and look around for a cayman ? Please advise.

PS This car will be our second car for fun/weekends.Never had Porsche before !

I find the Cayman cramped and claustrophobic and am happy to pop the roof down year round on a convertible so my money would go the Boxster way.

I don't find the Cayman cramped at all (I'm 6"2"), it is going to be a bit more civilised to use than a drop-top though.

I'd have thought it would be a marmite decision for most owners, they are both great cars but I wouldn't think that many Cayman drivers would even consider swapping for a Boxster (and vice versa).

gen 1 cars are not really up to track days with only one oil pick up point if you are fast or have Rspec tyres on.

yes you can do them but would need a few mods imo as I say depends how fast you are on track.

For a weekend car I think you should decide if you want roof down motoring or not, and decide accordingly.
Both are great cars and you can tie yourself up in knots in the Boxster v Cayman debate. My view point is that both cars are great to go on holiday with, both are great cruisers and hold lots of luggage, but when out in beautiful countryside or spectacular landscapes, it's just great to drop the roof. :-)

The main mod consists of fitting a baffled sump which is circa £500 inc labour.

I've had the gen 1 boxster 3.2 and now currently drive the gen 1 cayman 3.4. Drove the boxster for 40k miles without any problems and loved it. I wanted a caymen and also use it as my daily driver covered 60k miles in under 3 years. One of the main things I noticed was the extra luggage space in the respect of the rear hatch. The caymen was great on long driving trips. Whilst i do miss the open air feel of the boxster, there have been just a many times when i was glad to have a solid roof. Each to there own though, both are amazing cars and whichever one you choose you will love it.
