I had a 987 gen 1 2.7 tip for three years as was doing a horrendous commute to work, was given a loaner gen 2 car several times and it just didn't feel significantly different.
I'd go for the RS60 as they have a great spec and look fantastic plus have the limited edition kudos. The older 986 Boxster 550's have faired well against the regular models from a retained value perspective also.

the offset is early gen2 2.9s with piston ring issues replaced under warranty or the 3.4 gen1 bore scoring issues denied by Porsche take your pick!imho save a few more pounds and buy a gen2 3.4!the rs 60 is nothing more than a runout special fullstop.and the standard 3.4 gen2 is way better
Have tried search but not found much on 2.9 issues.
Obv a Gen II 3.4 would be better but these are the same price hence better comparison.......could go to a Gen II 3.4 but don't want to spend the extra at the moment....my original budget has already gone up significantly having seen a few that were not up to my standards at the lower end of 987 prices...

IMO, the 3.4 DFI is not a great engine, it is a good engine but not as good as the 2.9.
The 2.9 Non-DFI, as humble as the power output maybe, has a such a great soundtrack and loves being thrashed. I think it is a great engine.
The RS60 is one special car with a soundtrack and unique set of features but I would go for a 2.9/PDK/PSE combo over most other Porsche's, including most 997 911's.

Isn't the RS60 a 987.1 car the therefore with the non-DFI engine? The 2.9 Non-DFI, as humble as the power output maybe, has a such a great soundtrack and loves being thrashed. I think it is a great engine.

don't think I could be tempted from my 997 and into a 2.9 Boxster , do fancy a spyder mindThe 2.9 Non-DFI, as humble as the power output maybe, has a such a great soundtrack and loves being thrashed. I think it is a great engine.

The 3.4 in the rs60 is a nice engine but I am a person of extremes and I would sooner have a smaller displacement engine that makes a right racket as you are pushing it more of the time.
More smiles per mile

Well I would be bias... Clarkson got it right when he said the RS60 "feels italian" (obviously in a good way!).
Had mine for 4 years and 50k miles and in that time not a single issue - not one! It gets warmed up properly and sings its 7000rpm symphony in (almost) every gear each time it gets driven.
The naysayers either haven't driven one or do not know / dismiss the facts:
1. More power than standard - 303hp.
2. Unique sports exhaust - the best sounding from the entire 987 generation.
3. Non-DFI engine with character.
4. Many options as standard - full leather, GT Silver with Carrera Red / Grey leather, red tail lights, PASM, wheel spacers, PSE, etc.
5. Many unique options - black windscreen surround, perforated leather, solid aluminum gear knob, etc.
6. As rare (if not rarer) than the Spyder - 1960 worldwide with around 200 in the UK.
7. Hold their value better than other 987s.
The bottom line is what matters - an awesome driving experience, and the RS60 Spyder delivers. Only the GT3 and Carrera GT can markedly better the experience.

The naysayers either haven't driven one or do not know / dismiss the facts:
1. More power than standard - 303hp. 8hp more and more weight!
2. Unique sports exhaust - the best sounding from the entire 987 generation. same pse as option on 987.1/997.1
3. Non-DFI engine with character. But with a week ims and bores that score due to poor cooling and lockasil bores, poor oiling, weak open deck design need I go on!
4. Many options as standard - full leather, GT Silver with Carrera Red / Grey leather, red tail lights, PASM, wheel spacers, PSE, etc.Run out special like 987.2 black edition
5. Many unique options - black windscreen surround, perforated leather, solid aluminum gear knob, etc.apart from black windscreen other options techequipment.
6. As rare (if not rarer) than the Spyder - 1960 worldwide with around 200 in the UK.not as rare as the proper boxster spyder 1800 worldwide
7. Hold their value better than other 987s.Agreed by about 5-10%

Only the GT3 and Carrera GT can markedly better the experience.are you for real!!!!!!!!!!its the same experience as any nice 987.1 infact my 987.1 caymanS on standard suspension and 18" wheels was a better driving experience
the boxster rs60 like the cayman sport are both very nice examples as a runout special of the 987.1 but special like a gt3 they are not.the rs60 is more like its cousin the 986s 550 anniversary spyder which is also a nice 986 runout special.the rs60 is no spyder like the lightweight 987.2 spyderHad mine for 4 years and 50k miles and in that time not a single issue - not one! It's a parts bin car, it drives no better than a normal Boxster :-)
added to that, with only 1 oil pick up point, not a car you can take on track either due to oil starvation issues and low pressure when pushed.
Not sure why it holds more value over a normal Boxster, and not sure who would pay more for one either over a normal one now there is a price gap.
Nice car if priced the same, like the Cayman Sport, both worth no extra though.
