Been thinking of changing my 991s for a gen 1 GT3rs. My situation has changed in that I don't need my car for a daily driver anymore as I have a navara for using daily and I thought I would change the 991 for something more focused. Probably can't afford a gen 2 rs so would need to be a gen 1. Problem is that I'm thinking it might be a big step backwards from what I have. Certainly power wise I think the 991s is just as quick if not a bit quicker and my car is fairly well specced with some bits and bobs to really set it off. I've driven a gen 1 gt3 and the rs and I find them more special places to be but I really like the 991 as well.

Any thoughts lads ?

You driven both so you know the difference, it just comes down to what you want. Obviously the cars are very different.

I would have the GT3RS way before any 991, but you may be different. There is no right or wrong.

If you had both parked in your garage, which keys would you choose?

It may not be a consideration for you, but both cars will be going in opposite directions in terms of value too.

(Your 991 certainly looks good though!)

Personally, I'd go for the RS - such a lovely car. Engine is amazing!

I put 'value' on how much use and enjoyment I get out of a car.

A GT3RS would be special, and would be great for selected journeys. I'd be sceptical about using the word 'investment', but looked after and mileage kept down, and it should retain a good proportion of its value.

But, something like a 991S is considerably more practical and usable. In the right spec., a fabulous drive, whatever the weather, whatever the distance, amazing dynamics. Someone could buy a 991 and comfortably put 15,000+ mls pa on it for 10 years.

I'd be more tempted to have a really nice air-cooled 3.2/964/993 in the garage, alongside a 991, for sunny day fun and involvement.

Saw your car at Calderglen and its one of the nicest 991 I have seen...but my boy's vote went to the 6RS. No 7RS on the day but that would have done it for us!
As a weekender its a no brainer...but you will miss the 991 compliance on the bumpier country roads here for sure.

Weekend car = 7RS without a shadow of doubt and the added bonus if you like is it will keep its value better

The more modern cars are all so fast and capable nowadays some of the fun has gone.

I'm not proper old school that I want to go back to Fred Flintstones car but something in the last decade gives you everything that you want/need but with added GRIN factor

I've just chosen a more expensive gallardo over a 458 and MP4-12C as my fun weekend car because whilst the other 2 cars were better as a piece of engineering they were nowhere near as much fun

The Mc Laren would be a grrrreat daily drive but would I get up at 5.00 am on a sunny sunday morning to drive it - NO

I reckon I'd feel more special sliding around an RS of any generation than a brand new normal 911...........

Chop it in smile

I think you answer your own question, when you say you have driven a GT3/RS and find them the more special place to be in.... I have to agree, they are smile

Special week-end drives are enhanced by special cars, the RS will not disappointcool

Would you not consider a 997.2 gt3 in a decent color and the clubsport option? More or less the same price as a .1 rs

Interesting dilemma.

I guess if you do most of your driving on the road then the 991s is far more usable, but then as a track day machine it has to Ben the RS?

Would be interesting to know which is the faster both in the real world and on the track?

Does anyone have the Ring times?

Aren't 'Ring times for racing drivers?

- Heart says GT3 RS

- Head says 991'S'

I'm sure the Navara has its purpose, but it would really frustrate me as a road car.

If manual and no pse then go RS. However with ducktail 991 looks v good.

As an RS owner, evidently I am biased, but I have also done several thousand Km on the 991S. I would say that the RS is not a great daily driver, and I use mine purely for weekending. In terms of creature comforts the 991S is streets ahead. If you are interested in an edgy, engaging driver's car and you want to go for some running on the twisties or on the track, the RS is a more rewarding experience. I have no idea where long term values will go, though if you keep the car for a long time you will probably not get hurt too much.

I'd like to see some more pics of your 991 - haven't seen a red one with the aero kit.
