TPMS 911 turbo

A mate has just had a local tyre garage fit tyre pressure guages to he's wheels. It still shows they are faulty on the dash thou he believes after 30 miles they will reset . He is concerned that if he drives the car on a long journey with the warning light flashing it may harm the car in another way. I have explained it REALLY won't but can u pls help put he's mind at rest! As I told him its like the interior light not working! He's potentially giving up a full paid for weekend at spa Sunday track day, hotel and crossing and beer plus a megannne 250 cup and an exige S to rag all paid for!

Yep has no bearing on systems whatsoever. He can keep an eye on his tyre pressures all round manually.

He is referring to me!!! All sorted now car just took a while longer to relearn the new TPMS that were put in earlier.
Whilst on the subject, to anyone that may be interested I got my 4 new sensors from a place called shoptpms in the U.S
Some of you may know that these sensors and valves cost oround £150 each over here and the batteries have a lifespan of around 5/6 years. I paid £275 for all 4 including shipping and duties. I got the Huf/Beru ones which are the Porsche OEM items. Speak to Brad and he will sort it for anyone interested. All set for the trip to spa!!!
Also anyone that cares, my 997 turbo is featured in the latest Total 911 mag.

Interesting. Mine went on the blink a few years ago and were replaced under warranty. latest glitch is that in the morning the front left TPM shows its 2.4 psi whilst all the other are much lower at between 2.1 psi front and 2.3 psi rear . After 5 mins front left resets itself to the correct pressure? Never had that glitch before. Normally they show you have a flat tyre when they're on the blink

By the way I read with graet interest your saga on your blown Mezger unit and I am so glad it all worked out for you in the end. Perserverance and Porsche Germany seeing sense at last.....nice work.

Can sensors be added to wheels that didn't come with them?

My Cayenne has TPMS option but due to an intermittent fault with it (prob a flat battery as others have experienced) and changing wheels I had the system decoded from the car. The new wheels are genuine items but AFAIK don't have sensors (although I should check that really - I bought them used with tyres but had my new winter tyres fitted by the refurbishment people, didn't think to ask them to check for sensors).

The sensors can be fitted to any wheel - you will need a valve kit with each sensor too (not sure if the OPs come with)

Bought mine from TPMS.com same price, the only difference is if you wanted the valves a different colour, the price increased slightly .and yes it took a while for the on board system to re calibrate and start working.

Hey R1,

From your post, am I correct in assuming that when you fit new TPMS valves they will eventually automatically code to the car?

I'm coming at this from a slightly different perspective in that the TPMS valves fitted to my 997TT work perfectly well. However, I have purchased some new (to me) wheels which also have TPMS fitted. Will these code to my car automatically or is a trip to Porsche required?

Yes mate,

You just use the PCM settings to configure them automatically and they'll work fine, took mine about 10 mins first time around then just a couple of minutes each time I swap the wheels over, no idea why :lol:
