I would say that your car will depreciate between 10 and 20% over the next year.
as much as 20% on a car that's nearly 10yrs old? I thought the depreciation was bottomed out once it got to a certain ageWe cant know for sure though, but I can virtually guarantee that the 997 has NOT bottomed out yet.

Yes, its certainly possible. A 996 starts at about 7k? Theres no reason to think that the 997 wont follow although i suspect it wont get quite that low due to its looks being more popular.

996 start at £7k but they are the standard Carrera models which are high mileage / poor condition. IMO there reputation and popularity are not as good as the 997 so therefore the prices reflect that.We cant know for sure though, but I can virtually guarantee that the 997 has NOT bottomed out yet.
997 Carrera and Carrera S are completely different cars to the 996 and I do believe they will retain their price better than the standard Carrera and there equivalent. Maybe the C4S and the Turbo/GT models are excluded.
Interesting to see how the values pan out

Ive got a 2005 Porsche Carrera 2S, I'm thinking of selling for a turbo.
Looking at the prices on the internet I'm looking at selling mine for around £22-£23k.
If I kept mine for another year how much will it be worth? or is that too much of a guess

I'd guess the depreciation would be less than 10% now. You should certainly get 20K in late spring next year. The Turbos will be starting somewhere in the high 30's then.Looking at the prices on the internet I'm looking at selling mine for around £22-£23k.

that was my estimation as well. interesting to hear the feedback that could be as much as 20% thoughguess we'll see.
cheers mush
As always, I think it really depends on the quality of the car - good 997s I think will maintain reasonably strong money for the foreseeable.
This is in-part due to the pricing void created by the over-ambitious 991 positioning (and hence sticky stock/large amount of VME thrown at the cars, globally) and in part due to the fact that arguably, they're the last of the true 911s, in non-GT terms.
My money now would go (and stick with) a good, late G2 997.
I've just sold my 997.1 to a dealer yesterday and over the past 18 months, it cost me approx 5% in depreciation. There isn't a lot of good stock available at the moment, so command what you can!!

5% is good. Did you buy private, independent or OPC?What are you replacing it with?
Purchased it privately....sold back to a very well known & respected indy.
I did keep the car immaculate (arguably improved the condition of the car) - but I put this light investment down as part of the ownership proposition.
What's next? Good question.
I'm actually pondering over an old 986s .... used to really enjoy mine and the engineer in me still prefers that build quality over the latter 987 models.
Perhaps a new Cayman in the future.......BUT......I'm fortunate enough to engineer/have access to the new Jaguar F-type Coupe......and objectively, probably the 1st time in a long while that another marque has come some way to liberating cash from my wallet!!
It's a belter!!

Agreed.....
But then you need to consider the revised 991 volume ambition vs. those earlier derivatives - along with the competitive landscape.
The 991 is markedly more expensive than the out going - with a lower material cost.
They've over-stretched and are now struggling to move them. As always, the market will decide on the price correction!!

But adjusted for inflation the 991 costs LESS than the 993 0r 996 did at launch.
I'm confused by those who seem to to suggest the 991 is overpriced.
Inflation does not tell the whole story, its far more complicated than that.I'm confused by those who seem to to suggest the 991 is overpriced.
In basic terms, things are cheaper now and need to be. Western economys have changed dramatically with the BRIC countries moving the goalposts.
We live in a very different world now.
