I really fancy a 991 Turbo but want to go into it with my eyes open, I've had my name on the list for about 10 months and have been offered a slot for January build, has anyone else been offered early build slots without too much trouble?

This leads on to depreciation... I know its going to lose money but what's the general view on what it will lose in the first year?

Thanks

TP

I have also been offered a january slot with no problem and another dealer has offered £1000 discount too! Depreciation is my main concern, but I'm sure the car is great!

The EU dealers are asking €185k to €220k for Turbo S's. Totally crazy money regardless of how good the car is or not. The car isn't limited and has many competitors. From list I would agree that £50k in 18 months is about right. I would buy a car over here if it was the same as the GT3 but it's not so I would prefer a GT3 and Macan Turbo.

Unless you are a millionaire and like throwing it around a bit, don't buy one.

The 3 year residual of £56k is all you need to know.

Unless it's a GT3 911's depreciate like every other car these days. Long gone are the days when you could run a new 993 Turbo for a year and lose less than £5k.

At 3 years old it would sell at an OPC for £70-£75k.
They would want c.15-20% off bottom screen price for trade in depending on condition.

Personally I think these will be reasonably OK. I've just bought a 991 Turbo S and supply short hence deals are very hard to come by on these at present, if Porsche resist temptation to offer big discounts once supply catches up can't see them dropping below £100k for 2 years but then again who knows for sure hey!

New price £142k. After 1 year, I reckon £110k from an OPC. Might even be worse than that especially if there are one or two used GT3s around at that time. I just can't see how it will hold its value well at all when so many potential buyers are hesitating as it looks so expensive. I know it's not really in real terms compared with previous generations but it does seem that way this time for some reason.

2 year residual in the Turbo S is around £73k and Porsche manage the market so that price will be correct almost to the pound.

From memory the list for a 1993 964 3.6 turbo was £94K. So nigh on 20 years on £140K does not seem so bad. But I'd take a guess a 991 turbo S in 20 years won't be worth nearly what you paid for it new.

I think that the £50k first year estimates are right on the money - and in the real world that's what will happen.

I'd also expect it to lose at least £50k in year one. It's definitely a car worth waiting a year to buy secondhand, if you're even slightly conscious of depreciation. So many buyers go for a new Turbo as a bit of a trophy or childhood dream car, only to find that they've had enough after a few months or scared themselves silly.

What is with this British obsession about depreciation?

All high-end sports cars (Gallardos, 458s, Astons, Mclarens, Porsches etc) will lose the 20% VAT as soon as you drive them out of the showroom.

The Turbo S will be the same.

But who cares? You buy the car to drive, not to sell after 3 months.

Everyone moans when depreciation is high. But then everyone moans when depreciation is low (as we are then mileage obsessive).

In a way I like it when a car depreciates. Because then you can drive it everyday and not worry about its resale value.

I have a 993RS....I never drive it. I just look at it and polish it. If the market crashed I would be driving that car everyday and loving it.

So I am buying a Turbo S and will drive it everyday. Will the new GT3 owners be doing the same or will they be stressing over putting too many miles on their cars for fear of that dreaded depreciation?
