Does 991 Cup have a Metzger engine?

]There are surely many reasons, but the main one is that it is brand new and so far unproven. Note that the 991 Cup was available some time before the road GT3 so when the Cup was launched the 9A1 derivative wasn't even available. The old engine remains homologated for a number of years yet in most international series (even though it is fitted in the new chassis) so really it is common sense for them not to switch the racing cars over immediately.

However, the real reason is that it is too bespoke and expensive. The new one is designed to be built on the same line, shared parts etc etc.

With so much at stake in terms of their reputation, i will be flabbergasted if they have made a pup.It would be a monumental cock up. Surely, they have gone to great lengths to make a goodun?

Presumably because Porsche doesn't want to have to rebuild their road car customers' engines every 50 (?) hours? I think they're also pretty desperate to get direct injection homologated to compete with Ferrari and whoever else have DI engines in GTE, and they need the road cars to do that.So next question, why doesn't the 991 GT3 have it?
Me confused (maybe!)
- Mezger deemed at limit of development but robust enough to keep racing.
- 991 engine too expensive to homologate for racing but Mezger is acceptably expensive per unit for race cars.
- Mezger must die for road cars because it's not direct injection.
- Mezger must live because 991 engine unproven so can't race but IS reliable enough for road cars.
Basically have Porsche killed the Mezger for £££££££?

Me too I think the reliability of the Mezger and the years it's raced in all classes are impressive and unprecedented, not a reputation gained easily and a reputation to be maintained,any reliability issues shown on the track will be very bad for Porsche track status sells cars.Hence they need to get it right!
