Managed to hold him off for a couple of laps (while he was warming up!) but succumbed eventually to the 740bhp force of nature powering the Ruf.

I swear I could hear the Jaws theme as the black dot grew larger in the wing mirror.

CTR3s are a very rare sight. It was great to see one used as its maker intended.

Well there can't be many other CTR3s - especially in right hand drive, I didn't even know Ruf did them in RHD!

But this one had extra aero bits at the front, which I guess are easily added.

Very cool car though and hilariously fast. The Exige is no slouch but it dropped me like a hot spud! The straights aren't even that long at Donington!

Interesting - until I looked this up, I hadn't realised that Ruf did anything other than worked-over 911s. Of which, my local specialist had an absolutely lovely Ruf 964 in his workshop the other day - a narrow body C2 that had been completely rebuilt by Ruf with full turbo spec - it was sleek, subtle (apart from the spoiler which is I think unavoidable with a turbo) and just beautifully understated. Didn't take a pic, as the owner wasn't there to ask, but very much my sort of car.

Here you are Technomad, pic of aforementioned Ruf 964, previous US owner had a Porsche badge on it, just can't imagine why. Now has its original Ruf badge back on, but the pics are old and the only ones I have to hand.

Agreed regards rear spoiler but as you rightly say, It's required for the Intercooler/turbo.
A necessary evil, and boy is it evil.. :-)) Loving it.....

Putting the thread back on topic, Just Love the CTR3. Would have one in a heartbeat but I think they are now well north of
£500k and I wouldn't be surprised if the pics you have of the right hand drive car are 1 of 1. Can't imagine they built many in right hand drive but I could be wrong. Awesome machine...

I have been over 200mph in that car, and sideways, the owner drives it hard, love it.

Ps you need to knock another 4/5 seconds off your lap times :-p.

The 'yellowbird' will never be topped, it must be the most iconic 911 of all time.

But the CTR3 is Ruf giving it a damn good go!

For some reason it has slipped completely under the radar against the more obvious hypercars.

The owner also had a 911 GT3 Cup race car to play with and looked like he knew what he was doing in it. On full race wets in the afternoon he obliterated every other car out there but it was quite a sight. Sorry all I've got on video of that is a lot of spray.

As has been said, Right Hand Drive makes this CTR3 exceptionally rare. Possibly unique.

Have you been in it ?

Looks like a Boxster and is hard as nails, the turbo lag is also massive and changing gear takes a second instead of a nice 2/10ths shift.

I loved the car but going in it did not live up to my expectations.
It' still awesome though and the only car I have been easy over 200mph in.
on the road it must be unusable.

THe lag and gear shift really ruin that car but for looks and turbo boost it's cool as ****

That's the one - many thanks for sharing - fabulous piece of kit smile Out of curiosity, what's the engine spec?

Ruf RCT is 3.6 ltr with single turbo( strangely very little lag) 400+ hp, in
1991 Carrera 2 shell, so pretty nimble and loads and loads of grunt.
As Alois Ruf says ' they breed big horses in Pfaffenhausen ' :-)

If you were going a bit faster than S1 111s pace you might have held him off for a bit longer !

I was going to edit it so there wasn't a complete lap available for someone to time but then I figured no-one would be that sad!

It's one lap on a trackday in November folks, lets not get too carried away here.

There's loads of track gods out there.

Prefer the full GP circuit - only due to the fact have bad memories of the national as used to regularly outbrake myself down the back straight and go careering over the grass on the inside of the left onto the straight!

FWIW - thought your lines were excellent...

Great vid of an awesome car. That CTR3 belongs to a friend, he (finally! biggrin) let me have a go in it earlier this year at Bruntingthorpe. Driving it that fast on track is no mean feat; whilst it's ridiculously quick down the straights, it's really quite tricky to balance in the corners - could use more front end feel, and the power comes in with a huge surge when the boost arrives. Bloody exciting!
