Porsche Approved Warranty and Servicing
Discussion

'Below is an e mail from PGB addressing my queries vis the Porsche Used Car Warranty. I have replied formally acknowledging this change of contract.
Following on from Clare's email I have contacted the Porsche Warranty
Department who have advised the following:
You are able to get service work done elsewhere providing it is a certified
VAT registered repairer and Porsche Approved parts are used.
However, if any failure happens to your vehicle and it is linked to work
carried out by a non Porsche Centre, a warranty claim will be declined.
All warranty work must be completed by a Porsche Centre as they are the
only ones authorised to process a warranty claim.
In relation to your comments about fitment of the grill, I need to make you
aware that if you wish to apply for a Porsche Approved Warranty as a
renewal or an extension, any non Porsche approved parts will need to be
removed.
I hope the above has answered all your questions and explained in more
details your options for servicing. Should you have any further questions,
please contact us.
Yours sincerely

The PGB rep rang me to discuss any further aspects, during that conversation she did confirm that the fitting of grills was not a problem unless they could be directly linked to a failure, but would have to be removed for renewal or extension as quoted above. Exactly Sonji experience. Although not specifically stated in the mail she did confirm that this applied to the USED Warranty. She also confirmed that the printed booklet will be revised in due course'.

Totally at odds with what Porsche told me about two weeks ago - my Cayman is going to OPC Cambrdige on Monday for a minor service as a result, rather than my local indie (PSR). Soovy has opined about this in the past, and I'd want more than an email - I'd want it spelt out, clearly, in the warranty document itself by the people who underwrite the policy (and I don't think that's PGB, though I could be wrong on that).
Take a copy of this to your center and ask for an explanation. From other info on that forum it would seem that Porsche carry the warranty, one example says that the underwriting is like a insursnce underwriting but that the policy is with the insurance company not the underwriter. Would be very interesting to hear what your local center has to say. Or contact Porsche uk.

I was under the (perhaps false) impression that the terms above were true only of NEW Porsche warranties, and not the approved used scheme. I raised this point specifically over the summer and was told: "With regards to your questions in your previous email, I can confirm that any work covered under the Porsche extended warranty must be carried out within the OPC network otherwise it will not be covered."
My memory is playing tricks though, and that was early summer so perhaps it's changed, but that's what Porsche Cambridge told me when I renewed the warranty.

Well, that has been the argument or perhaps fight wold be better, on the other site. But, that e mail is from the warranty deprtment of Porsche GB and applies to the used approved warranty. Ring your center and ask them. Would be interesting. What sterted the argument on the other site is that a main dealer told a customer that you could use a independent and not affect the used warranty, it would seem correct but Porsche haven't updated the booklet.

I'll ask them on Monday when my Cayman goes in - moot point for me as doubt I'll renew next year, indeed I'm not sure I'll still have a Porsche next year.Edited by alexisn on Friday 29th November 14:54

It's this sort of thing that undermines Porsche customer service.
In response to a question from me last month, Porsche UK emailed to say the extended warranty is ONLY valid if ALL servicing/maintenance work is done by a Porsche Centre. I asked the question after my local Porsche Centre told me it did not have to be done by Porsche.
If the Porsche Centres appear to be contradicting the published terms and conditions of the warranty, are they going down the miselling route?
No doubt, if they put in writing the work can be done by an independent and then a warranty claim is rejected, the OPC would have to sort it out. I'm sure they would then say staff are being "re-trained" with regards to the warranty terms.
It seems Porsche have contracted out the training of their staff in warranties to Currys.

I don't know whether Porsche have reprinted their used warranty terms and conditions but it would semm that the above is now incorporated.'Below is an e mail from PGB addressing my queries vis the Porsche Used Car Warranty. I have replied formally acknowledging this change of contract.
